You could try tincture of benzoin, I've never used it for for applying a breathe right strip but have used it on my feet to hold tape on with good success.

 

Get some alcohol swabs or wipes and scrub whenever it is going to stick. It'll burn while you're doing it but boy does it work. I haven't done a full IM with one but it stayed on in the half I did like that - and my body was doing some weird stuff so an IM shouldn't be an issue.
