Based in London, UK FYI. Few months ago riding home from work one evening I was harassed while on my bike by a motorist. They actively turned around to go after me, swerving at me, speeding up and braking right infront of me. I told him I was recording (which I was) and after a short bit he drove off. I filed a police report once I got home noting I had video of the incident and noting their license number.
Recieved an email a week later to set up a meeting for the following week to give a statement and convey the video. I did so and assumed the matter would be dealt with as required. I was informed by the police over the holiday break that they finally reviewed the video however they could not prosecute because they did not file a 'Notice to Prosecute' within 14 days of the incident. Had I known such a statue existed I certianly would have put more pressure on the police to follow through immedately.
It seems ridiculous that I did what was asked of me (in the time requested) but nothing will be done because they did not notify the individual in those 14 days. Are there other options here? I realize the Met Police have many crimes to deal with but this seems to be lazy. They didnt even set the meeting for statement and video until a day before their own required notifcation period ended.
I'm not expcting the guy to be thrown in solitary but figured it should be carried through given how they went out of their way to chase after me.
Thoughts?
