Gwen is 5'10" and 126lbs currently. That's big for a marathon runner, even a male marathoner. OTOH Paula Radcliffe was 5'8" and 119lbs, so it is not disqualifying, just makes it unlikely Gwen can be a good marathoner. Paula was a massive outlier in many ways. So is Gwen of course, between her physical talent and smart analytical training methods, it may be possible..

'Average' Olympic women marathoners are 5'4" and 105lbs. Jordan Hasay is 5'4" though I don't find a weight, would guess she is not over 100lbs, basically the perfect build for marathon. Ten-mile races are very different from marathons..

Specifically for Tokyo the likely heat of the race will make it immensely difficult for a big runner to do well. But I do hope to see GJ there, will be cheering for her all the way..

Did you personally weigh her today? Her weight has been all over the place both pre and post pregnancy so it's kind of ridiculous that you claim to know her exact weight (to the pound) today.

here you go,

http://www.gwenjorgensen.com/about/

Height: 5-10 / 177
Weight: 130lbs / 55kg

126-130lbs is a good race weight for a 5'10" woman runner. Getting lighter is most likely also getting weaker. I don't know of any 5'10" women marathoners contending for wins at the majors. GJ might be able to do it, but it's improbable.

"It is a good feeling for old men who have begun to fear failure, any sort of failure, to set a schedule for exercise and stick to it. If an aging man can run a distance of three miles, for instance, he knows that whatever his other failures may be, he is not completely wasted away." Romain Gary, SI interview

Look how much $$$ Kara Goucher still makes. She doesnt have to be the best, just a cute competitive ambassador for USA. She will do well enough to be marketable (cute mommy gold medal athlete) and make a lot more money without all the training hours and travel. Smart move on her part.

Exactly what I was thinking

Now you are making even less sense. You first just made up that she weighs 126 pounds TODAY, then you looked at her site where she lists her weight at 130 pounds (in the same section that lists her current coach as Jamie Turner to give you some idea about how current that is), then you think that her marathon race weight will be 126-130 (where did you pull these numbers from?). Maybe, just maybe, she will be lighter when she trains solely for the marathon than when she was swimming and biking in triathlon.

Well she's certain to lose a few hundred grams from her arms, at least.

That's pretty patronising. She's been at the very top of her sport, and she's not aiming to be an Instagram 'runner'.

Now you are making even less sense. You first just made up that she weighs 126 pounds 57.2 kilograms
Rate: 1 pound = 0.45 kilogram TODAY, then you looked at her site where she lists her weight at 130 pounds 59.0 kilograms
Rate: 1 pound = 0.45 kilogram (in the same section that lists her current coach as Jamie Turner to give you some idea about how current that is), then you think that her marathon race weight will be 126-130 (where did you pull these numbers from?). Well regardless of her exact weight today or in the recent past, her height isn't in question and she isn't going to get shorter. For her sake and ours I hope we never see her trying to compete at 5'10 and 100lbs.

She has always been an extremely lean triathlete. I don't reckon she'll race at more than a few lbs less than she raced tri, and mostly from any loss of upper body mass from lack of swimming.
