Gravel TTT in North Central Florida

Early March, before the world stopped entirely. A fun "event" with no aid stations, no road closure, self-timing, and no entry fees, organized by local Aussie Floridian Jayson O'Mahoney aka the Gravel Cyclist.

Really encourage folks to give these gravel rides a try. Tons of fun.

I regret not having ridden those gravel roads more often when I lived back in GNV. But then again, I also didn't have a gravel-capable steed at the time. Looks like a blast.

Short of the deep sand, many of the gravel stuff is doable on a road bike with 25mm tires around. That course was not too suited to this given a couple of sand pitches.
But yes, the gravel riding around is pretty awesome. Just lacks elevation.

The back roads here are soooo nice to ride. I'm still getting used to the sugar sand, but other than that, there are miles and miles of limerock and dirt roads, with little to no traffic, just waiting to be ridden.

I always say Florida, in particular North Florida (Gainesville in my case) is sneaky beautiful. We don't have any picturesque mountains or anythings, but I love the way the roads look with the huge live oak trees looming over them and the spanish moss hanging down from their branches. It's very peaceful.

I didn't do the Gravel TTT race Francios mentioned, but I did do the Heartbreak ride in February, put on by the same Gravel Cyclists. Again, free event, over 100 people showed up. Pretty cool, lots of fun.
