Glen Arbor, Empire, Sleeping Bear Dunes Michigan Bike Routes
Quote | Reply
Hi All,

We are going to Northern Michigan for a week and will be staying near Sleeping Bear Dunes. I'm planning to bring my road bike for a few rides; preferably distances ranging from 20-50 miles. Nothing longer as I want to be able to get up early and finish the ride before too much of the morning has passed by... our primary goal is family time. Looking for any recommendations on good routes that will keep me away from higher traffic areas and higher speed limit roads. I have been there before, but didn't do any serious riding... just cruising around town.

I briefly searched ST and didn't find much. There were a couple hits on Google that may be promising, and Strava turned up a couple rides:

This is a one-way loop that looks pretty good (but very short). We drove this in the car last time and as I remember it was pretty hilly:

Longer loop:

Worth checking out?

There is a Heritage Trail MUP that we rode last time but i'm not sure it would be great for training... it's pretty wide open without many sharp turns, but probably more family oriented.

Thanks

I visit that part of Michigan every summer. Any route in the interior of the peninsula is good. M22 is the only road to avoid due to traffic. There is also a nice path that goes from TC up to Suttons Bay. This is my favorite route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6340164, but it's on the other side of the peninsula.
