Giro's Empire: ACC, Knit, SLX
Replacing bike shoes and read all the specs and info I can find on the ACC, Knit, and SLX.
Can't decide which one to go with price isn't the determining factor. ACC's are cheapest at $160, Knit $160-$200 depending on color, SLX $245. If you have a lock on a better price please let me know.

Wanted to ask the slow twitch crowd for experience with any of the shoes and reasons to possibly eliminate any of them.

Is the jump from ACC to SLX worth it? ~ 40 grams difference, more perforation on SLX.

Is knit just a gimmick? Heard it is comfortable and obviously breathes better than the other two, but is it "slow" and giving away free watts?

Possible pertinent info:

I always ride without socks and use molded footbeds.

Tri and road use, planning on a version of the empire elastic lace mod from T. Gerlach's post http://www.thomasgerlach.com/...es-aerodynamics.html

If there is another shoe I should look at open to suggestions.

no help from me but wondering the same thing. I like the idea of the knit since I have had knit runners and they are super comfortable sockless.

SLX upper is much more compliant/supple and as a result flexes more than ACC. That makes for a comfier fit, though I can't say I find the ACCs uncomfortable. Downside to the SLX extra upper flex is that if you are a sprinter, you may not like that extra flex.

I actually took a hammer to the toebox of my ACCs to try to get a mm or two more compliance and improve the fit. Old trick that Doc Marten wearers used to know. It helped.

Curious about the same thing as I need some new shoes and would like to give these a try. Also wondering if anyone has input on how they run for sizing. I wear a 46 in Louis Garneau with a bit of a wide foot. I’d like to get the size right on the first order if possible.
