Getting bike home after European IM?

I'm considering doing IM Norway at the end of June next year, and trying to work out logistics for our trip. We'd be flying out of Boston, and the closest airport to the race site is in Bergen, Norway, which is around a 3.5 hour bus ride away. I'd be traveling with my wife and two younger kids (they would be 6 and almost 3 at the time).

After the race we would want to go to Denmark (Copenhagen) to see LegoLand and Tivoli Gardens, and then drive to Hamburg to visit my brother-in-law, who lives there. Lugging along my bike after the race wouldn't work, and I'm trying to figure out options.

Option one is boxing up the bike and sending it home some way right after the race. Not sure of the the cost here??

Option two would be finding some sort of storage - maybe in Copenhagen - to leave my bike at while visiting Hamburg. We would then drive back to Denmark and fly home with my bike.

For those who've done something similar, what did you find worked best (or maybe would have done differently)?

Thanks!

What about trying to find a Danish tri ship company (in the UK for example there are several that will take your bike to a Euro IM for you, either from a pick up point or from your house) out of Copenhagen and see if they would do one way back, and then you can pick your bike up from there before you fly home (after Hamburg)

I did IM Copenhagen and stored my bike at the main station downtown in their long-term storage. Inexpensive, no muss, no fuss. The day I flew out, I just picked it up and took a taxi to the airport.

I don't recall if the airport itself had long term storage

I did a similar thing when I raced Germany, and then went to Italy after the race. I left the bike in luggage storage at the hotel in Germany, then picked it up as we came back to Germany from Italy to fly back home.

Thanks for the ideas so far - sounds like there are options. Now I just need to convince my wife that it can be done!

I am doing IM Wales in September. Myself and the family are going to spend a few days in London before heading over to Wales. At Heathrow there is a luggage storage company, left-luggage. I am going to store the bike there for a few days upon arrival. Is there something similar where you are going?

.

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.
