Gastrocnemius pain, after the bike on the run
Quote | Reply
A friend has been having some gastrocnemius pain after getting off of his bike, he has tried rest and taking time off but the pain always comes back. He rides a Kestrel km40. He is wondering if his cleats could be causing this pain in his run. He doesn't hurt on the bike. There is nowhere around here to get professionally fitted though. Does anyone have any tricks, suggestions, to avoid this pain in his leg? Any tricks or suggestions on repositioning his cleats. His pedals are dura ace pedals. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

Thanks in advance,

does he pedal toe down through the entire stroke. or does he pedal with no up down ankle movement?

And does he have generalized calf pain or is it specifically gastroc pain... the gastroc is only one of the muscles in the calf... unless you have a reason to call it gastroc pain I would just call it calf pain

One WAG is that his cleats may be too close to the toe-end of the shoe...there is naturally more calf work when set up that way...good for road racing, not so good for running off the bike.
