Game on at Oceanside (spoilers)

Lionel was about 2:15 back of Jan (leading) at 1 km into the bike. Erin reported it was likely his best swim. Wish this had better coverage!

I would settle for IM live giving data. They have been out of the water for a while and nothing

1:40 behind Potts in the swim sounds pretty darn good on the day. Go Lionel!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah 2:15 behind Jan and only 1:30 behind Potts per Erin's periscope.

Frodeno putting nearly a minute into Potts in the water is a bit surprising.

25:20 swim for Lionel. What seemed more surprising is that Jan out swam Potts by nearly a minute (22:45 to 23:40). Sounds like Lionel could be in a good spot as long as he doesn't overbike like in the past.

Men at 12 miles

Frodeno leads the men's race with Sanders in second, just +0:38 back of the leader. Amorelli is +0:42, Gambles +1:04, Dreitz +1:07 and Potts +1:07.

Could you imagine being Lionel right now? He's obsessed over racing Jan here since getting dropped on the run a few years back. Now he's on the bike, within striking distance. How can he not be itching to drop the hammer!? It'll be a real test of proper pacing, I'd imagine!

That seems like a pretty big match to burn to make up that time in 12 miles.

There is a plan, it does not include overbiking.

Are you surprised he dropped drietz that quickly? He put two mins on him in 12 miles.

I can't speak as to Drietz's bike fitness at the moment so tough to say.

Just past mile 15, Frodeno got off his bike. Our spotters are not yet sure why. Sanders now leads. #im703oceanside

Perhaps Lionel flew by so fast Jan thought he must have a brake rubbing?

I see nothing is listed on the IM tracker in miles and now everything in kilometers. Will this be for everything going forward??? Maybe I'll need to start training and those metrics to get used to the conversions.

Great swim for him and then he put 15 seconds into Frodeno in T1 and moved from 19th out of the water to 9th onto the bike. He had the fastest T1 in the field. And then he's in the lead at 15 miles and Frodeno DNF's (edit, had a flat apparently). Not sure what happened first. It's the triathlon blitzkrieg of all time almost.
