GXP bottom bracket. Which one? Confused
I've worn out my bottom bracket and I'm replacing it myself.
Local bike shops don't seem to have it in stock.
Can you provide any recommendations on what BB to buy?
I prefer not to do the trial and error of purchasing/returning items.
I don't need anything fancy as I only race against myself.

I have a 2008 trek equinox ttx 9.0
Bottom bracket say GXP XR BSA. 52-07, 51-07
Bontrager Crankset
Measured the frame at 68 mm

Perhaps you can post a link.

Thanks in advance

any 'ENGLISH' threaded gxp bottom bracket will work

BSA means that it is English threaded.

An Italian threaded GXP bottom bracket would not work for the OP.

corrected edited to clarify English threaded which is all trek does and omit the Italian threaded 2 or 3 frame manufacturers nobody rides TT bike of anyway.

Thank you, I thought that was the case. A local bike shop said they needed to know the size of the 68 GXP, and that 110 is the smallest. Another shop said something to add to the confusion

Do you have any idea of what they were trying to tell you?

That statement makes no sense at all and I would suggest that you don't go back.

110 sounds like it could be the crankset spindle width, maybe? It’s kind of a stretch though, since GXP crankset spindles are designed around the crankset. What they “might” be doing is making sure you have the correct spacers, since English thread frames can be either 68mm (road) or 73mm (mountain). So if you have a crankset that’s designed around a 73mm frame width then you will need spacers for your frame. That shouldn’t be the case though.

Otherwise, I have no idea. Are you sure that you.aren’t mixing up what was said?

Edit, shit, I think I know what’s happening. They’re looking at square taper bottom brackets, not GXP. As long as you have a gxp crankset, then any BSA gxp Bb will work.

I think you are correct.

The bike shop might have been talking about old school square taper axles that have nothing to do with current cranks and bottom brackets.

Or isis, maybe. They might have gotten confused on the nomenclature, thinking gxp was isis. Or the Op wasn’t clear in what they needed. Or something else . Who knows?

Definitely not octalink, they didn’t come in a 110 width.

I took a look at the trek archives, and although it doesn’t list the BB used, it appears from the photo that the crankset is actually a GXP. That’s based on a grainy photo, not being able to see the BB itself.

If you wanted to treat yourself, Hope Tech in the UK make some very nice and very long-lasting GXP-compatible bottom brackets which are - in my view at least - a significant step up in quality from the SRAM products. I have the steel bearing model fitted to my TT bike for running SRAM/Quarq cranks. They are compatible with both Shimano Hollowtech II and GXP by way of a small optional shim that reduces the inner diameter of the non-drive side bearing, which gives you options for different chainsets in the future. And you can get them in red, which as everyone knows is the fastest colour.

I expect Wheels Manufacturing do a similar thing if you wanted a US-based option.

Cheers, Rich.

I wonder how a chainring's Bolt Circle Diameter came into the conversation.

I can't imagine how a crank got mentioned in a conversation about a BB.
