Fuselage reservoir for Cervelo PX, P3X and P5X - signal your interest
Quote | Reply
I'm intrigued by the possibility of adding a shiv fuselage reservoir to the Cervelo px series, as shown on Ben Hoffman's 2019 Kona bike. I have read several threads here on st, where it seems other forum members would also be interested.

Ben's setup relied on taping the SmartPak 600 (bento box) to adequately hold the fuselage for refueling on the go. I see no reason why px-series owners wouldn't want a more permanent solutioin, vis-a-vis the Felt IA, in order to avoid retaping, every time the fuselage is used (https://forum.slowtwitch.com/...tomization_P5426788/)

I'm starting this thread to grasp demand for such a product, in order to make it worthwhile for e.g. Yann to design and produce. Please, do indicate if you're interested in such a solution, and if you happen to live in SF area and own a px-series bike, please also speak up :)

I'd be happy to come up with a solution for this. I do need to see a P5X or P3X in person to figure out a good solution. That said, if anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area has either the P5X or P3X, please email me at yann@custombikexcessories.com.

Also, would need at least 8-10 people to commit to buying the solution for it to be worth my time. This would be different from the boxes I have designed so it would take more time to come up with a good solution.

I have a P3X and I'm interested. Sorry, I'm nowhere near you.

The price needs to make sense for the product, it is going to be hard to beat the price, durability and convenience of an Xlab torpedo. If the reservoir is large enough maybe you can make a $ per ounce argument?

I disagree reg. the pricing. I think it offers advantages over torpedo, reg. practicality, fit (narrow arms) and weight distribution on the bike.

I think Jakesdk idea is to use the bladder for the specialized shiv and put it inside the p5x/p3x frame where the opening is behind the steerer tube. All I would be designing is the piece that mounts to the frame and holds the bladder in place somehow.

So I'm interested, however I am in process of customising a retrofit to suit.

One immediate and big issue I've encountered, local Spesh dealer is now saying the 2 fuelselages I ordered wont be delivered and have in fact been discontinued already!!

So your idea will be fruitless if this is the case stateside also?

You may also have an opportunity to buy some and sell as combined package.

My plan is actually to try fit 2, with 1 being refillable via custom cap solution like you're thinking also.

Wondering if you could use a small camel back bladder instead?

I mocked one up on my PX after i saw the one on the Hoff's bike and asked him about it. I used the Shiv Fuselage and some rare earth magnets, one set epoxied to the exterior of the fuselage and one set temporarily taped to inside the bike frame... works like a charm but not easily refillable on the fly without some additional tinkering and maybe fabrication of a cap/spout system. I'd be interested in Yann's solution as well so put me down for one.

Yes, camel back is being explored but don't think there will be a refill option for long course.

I'd also be interested. I just upgraded my P3 for a PX and I also saw Hoff's set up and been researching on this. He mentioned that he only uses the fuelselage for water.... I can only imagine the mess if you spill nutrition inside the frame.

Also interested.

Have a P5x on the way and this has peaked my interest. I'll have to test the stock configuration first but the internal bta, if fillable on the go, would definately be something I would be interested in (depending on price)

This is exactly what I've been searching how to do since ordered my PX. Unfortunately I live very far but if you are able to create a re-fillable one, I will surely buy!

Would you be able to share any pics of this? I've already ordered the fuelselage and will get it from UK next week.

I only mocked it up to see how it would work. I currently have the bike on the trainer so I have it removed. When I get a chance I’ll put it back on and take a few photos to post.

Ok Gents & ladies its good news.

Got my fuelselages from online today.

A quick fit to check. I got both sizes but tried the M/l bladder - so 1 x litre of fluids.

Fits perfect, I filled it in frame no prob, a little slow but that was same on shiv before.
The cap is flush with the frame.

I've a spare cap and container on way so will drill into my one and mount it permanent now that all passed.

Option to fit in the bento box thing also so space for gels over it. But this would mean harder or messy to refill if needed.

I'll experiment with both cap and bento to see if I can get it to fit both.

Very happy to see 1 x litre inside frame.
Better weight distribution also and other benefits.

very cool!! it looks like all you need is a carbon fiber piece to attach the reservoir's plastic bits to in order to secure it to the bikes threaded receivers.

Yes, not in pic but the p5x has a plastic tray that fits into the hole, and a plastic cap that clips on top flush where the fuselage cap is.

So option 1 is to cut hole in both for straw/fuselage and fuselage cap and bond together then sorted.

Option 2 is fit the tray, fit the bento box (slots into and over tray), fit the bladder into both and the cap to secure in bento box then.

Have ordered spare tray and cap so I can use mine for deciding or have both options.
Will add pics when sorted. Likely the weekend before I get a chance.

Now that I've seen the pictures, I see what needs to be done. I just ordered a fuelselage bladder to design the mounting box around. I've also located a p3x about 45 minutes away from me that i'll be able to measure and test fit the system on next weekend.

In the meantime can someone tell the center to center distance in mm between the 2 screw holes and the width of the opening so I can do a rough design of the piece.
