Flying to marathon the day before?
I’m signed up to race California International Marathon (CIM) in December with the goal of qualifying for Boston.

The only way I can make it work now is if I fly down Saturday late morning, the day before the race. I think my biggest concern is legs feeling stale etc.

I'm already on the west coast so travel is relatively brief. But, how hard will that make the race? Has anyone done something similar?

For Ironman I've always flown in ~3 days before. Just trying to decide now if it's workable before I find a different race - really hoping it's doable!

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I wouldn't worry about it the least bit. I'd have to go back and count but I bet I have traveled in to a marathon from out of town the day before 20+ times. I did the California International Marathon last year but did, in fact, get there on Friday instead of Saturday like you are saying.

Wear compression socks or tights and be nicely hydrated during flight and shouldn't be too bad.

Funny, I am doing the same thing - flying down the day before CIM. I wasnt really sure if the Saturday arrival would affect anything, but I figure I might as well try it and see what happens. Same as you I’m already on west coast time and the flight is only 2 hours. I figure I’ll wear some compression tights on the flight.

Yeah, I would say if you have the opportunity, go out for a quick run 20 minutes or so just to freshen up the legs after the travels..
