Flashing taillight recommendations?
In the last couple years I’ve had two Trek Flare R die (less than 2 hour battery life). My RT on the other hand holds a charge for several rides. Trek customer service referred me to the shop. The shop was noncommittal and wouldn’t warranty it again.

Any recommendation on a long life, high visibility flashing taillight? I use it for daylight and night rides.

Thanks.

I have two of these, one for each bike:
https://cyclesmartusa.com/...cts/bike-smart-light

They come with multiple types of mounts and I probably could have just gotten by with one. But I'm glad I have two. Shipping does take a while.

Not a coach. Not a FOP Tri/swimmer/biker/runner. Barely a MOP AGer.
But I'm learning and making progress.

Lupine Rotlicht. Very bright and the battery life is great. And they also make a Max version with double the battery capacity.

Another vote for the Cygolite HotShot. USB rechargable, bright, simple,, small, battery lasts forever. I just put it on standard flash approx 2x/sec.

The red LED in it and reflector are so bright in standard flash you don't need any crazy strobe or patterns to get peoples attention. At dusk, its bright enough that I've had other riders complain about being behind me.

I have been using this Cateye TL-LD620/635 for a few years. It has 4 modes (flashing, UFO, pulsing, solid), very bright, USB rechargeable, mounts to my seat post and even seat stays since mine are round. It has great battery life in flashing and UFO and has so far had no problems even when getting spray from the rear wheel. It's even easy to turn off/on or switch modes while still riding. It's pretty aero too ;)

Exposure Blaze Mk 2. I liked it so much, when it came off on an mtb ride (during the day) I bought myself another. Now I wrap an extra velcro strap around it. It has a flashing day light that is pretty intense. You are not really supposed to use it at night, but I've never had a close call with it. I'm not sure what the life is when flashing but it is longer than 6 hours (I think it is 12 or 24).

either this:

or this:

the lasers on the laser drive is a bit gimmicky, but the daylight flash is the same as the Zecto Max. That daylight flash has better visibility than a traffic light. One of my techs drives along the route I commute in on and rain, sun, fog, you name it he can see me from as far off as the terrain allows. I've gotten lots of people at stop lights complimenting me on how bright those lights are. This is all during daylight, too! If I had to pick one over the other I'd go with the Zecto Max. Good luck!!

ETA: Lumens in daylight flash is 250 on both units.

Hmmm . . . I've had my R Flare for several years. It has never died (up to 7 hours for me). I just love it and would get another.

I bought a rechargable set on Amazon for like $16. Best part (besides rechargable) is they came 2 to a box!

Neither of my Flares have come out of the drawer since getting a Varia. The Flare is the best non-radar rear light though.

Edit: The Varia is the only light I have been able to securely get on my Time Machine seatpost too (with a $1 O ring at the hardware store).

+10 on the Garmin Varia. Easily the best equipment I have ever bought for riding on the road.
