First Triathlon Bike (Fit Help)
Hey ST Community,

Looking for some insight on my first triathlon bike. Previously had a road bike with aero bar clips ons so this is a big upgrade. I just purchased it a few days ago and I am looking for some help with any minor or major adjustments that are needed. Was able to find help on getting the right size as well as how to properly put it together so figured why not try and see if I can get some help with the fit. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, stay safe, and happy (indoor) riding!

Anne you sold me those shoes at Live Grit a few years ago when I came in for my Trek 1.1 road bike/aero bar fit haha

Disclosure: my feet are bigger then a normal 5'11" guy. I wear 12.5 Nike Pegasus to run

Crank length is 175 mm I am looking to get a 165 mm crank.

as they say, the camera adds 10lbs!

yes get those 165 cranks! will help with your ankle rotation as well as hip angle.

You don't need a bike shop to change cranks.

Good to know! I'm more hands on and like learning how to take care of my own bike etc. I'll check out YouTube and see what tools I need etc.

Do you have a Shimano crankset on your bike?

Yes it came with Shimano Ultegra 172.5 mm looking at finding a used Shimano Ultegra 165 mm to switch it out.

Shimano makes their 105 (R7000) crankset down to 160mm arms.

Shimano road cranksets need a 5mm allen wrench and a TL-FC16 tool to swap them out.

i think your saddle is a little high. swapping to 165 might solve the height problem, otherwise i would suggest lowering it 5-10mm

Perfect so I was looking up the Shimano 105 cranksets. Do you know the difference between the Shimano FC-R7000 Hollowtech and the Shimano FC 5800? Is one better then the other?

Did exactly as you suggested and lowered it a bit. My legs felt so much better. Before I felt like I had dead legs and was struggling to get through Z2-3 workouts. When I switch to 165mm cranks do I need to change my seat height too?

once you settle on the proper seat height, it needs to change relative to your crank length. so if you are currently on 172.5 w/ a good saddle height, switching to 165 means you should raise your saddle 7.5mm.

I would recommend the R7000 crankset with 160mm arms.
