Any one done a DA 9070 Di2 build? If so any compatibility problems anywhere?

Hi, Greg,
Yes I have to agree that in many (probably most) cases, smooth transition is more aero... especially to account for a variety of yaw angles. That being said, there are some instances where edges are more aero... kammtail, being one of them.
In addition, the edges on the V bike are mostly in directions that do not impact the overall aerodynamics. This very point was discussed specifically in the updated white paper and an illustration of the cross sections of the frame was provided. See http://falcobike.com/ttwhitepaper.pdf and (scroll down to Page 6 of 21 in side bar).
As another example, the Nissan GTR, being one of of our generation's most acclaimed (or underrated, depending on who you ask) super car, despite having a worldly "Nissan" brand name, has quite a few edges. Also, Lambos never had any trouble for having edges and being fast.
Regards,
Binny @ Falco Bike
That is a nice rocket sled. But 2 comments: the plain version above looks way way better than the ones with the "tron" inspired paint jobs. Falco should do other simple paint schemes too: maybe white, blue, red, silver, whatever. The other thing that seems perplexing: I wonder why the designers made the effort to make all those sharp edges in the carbon surfaces? Because, nearly always, smooth transitions between sides and edges are far more aero.

Brendan -- if you do not run Di2, then you could leave the battery lid off, and put lots of stuff in there, you may have to tape the gels to the opening... Only catch, you may need to hold the bottle w/ your teeth while reaching for the gels and what not...

I have done a di2 build, zero problems doing so, the mechanic who helped said this was one of the easiest bikes he has worked on

Could you design a storage unit that would replace the bottle cage and fill in that area to store ones fuel and spares kit. If I was to get your frame, I would most likely have a Sitero saddle with a behind the saddle bottle and would also be using a BTA system upfront. So I would then need to have somewhere to store gels and my spares kit. I think you could come up with a very aero set up that would mirror the lines of the bike and almost look seamless. Rubber top with a slit in it so that you could just reach in and grab on the go. That would give you a very aero storage unit that would look like a part of the bike.

Absolutely. That's the plan... Should be pretty handy and more aero than the bottle w/ no UCI rules to worry about.

Great minds think a like. I really like that idea and if it is more aero that would even be better. I know that TRP/Tektro have new brakes, is there any plan to incorperate the newer style brakes into the front end to hide the cable better. I do however like the one build with the Nokon's as that seems to do a much better job than the noodle.

If Falco is going to make something that fits extremely well and is more aero, then YES PLEASE! But of course I see your point.

Kind of like a Spesh Fuelcell...
Re: Falco V - First consumer build [TriathlonKid]

BUT more integrated and more aero I would assume but yes along the same lines but just not as big and UGLY!

Hi Binny,
While I understand your point, I think that the examples of the combustion engine cars are not the best, as most of them have a lot of power to spare. And 'top speed' is usually not the main purpose of most race cars, 'superior handling at speed' is. But if you look at things that must be highly aero and also super efficient, you see no sharp lines at all (except at trailing edges of course):
Plus, if you closely look at the fastest superbikes in the world (the ones that actually test fastest in the tunnel and on the road), they are all extremely smooth on their sides, as is necessary to minimize drag. So, I am curious, what made Falco add all of the sharp edges?

Total Highjack here but will your PROJECT X AEROBARS be totally slippery and no sharp edges?

I think you should bring up issues in this thread so that Binny can see what the issues are and avoid making the same ones and provide everyone with a better product.

Fuel Cell is a tough one because i am not really sure how else they could have done it with the tight space in that area of the frame. Its very hard to keep stuff in the bottom of it (i am sure plenty of people here would agree and disagree with me) due to shape i end up normally just keeping no more a spare tube in there with levers and Co2 taped to seat post. The top portion of it has to be taped down during races (i don't stress this to much in training) to avoid it pooping up a little and creating more drag: its rather unsightly with tape as well. Top portion is not bad: I can store tool wrench kit in, keys, and about 3-4 gels. Have to tape over the holes in bottom of it so gels don't leak all over the spare tube (i don't litter). I don't love it and i don't hate it. I have friends that own the Fuel cell and have taken it off in favor of just running water bottles with needed supplies packed in. In comparison to my friend who rides a SC series 9 back draft box is huge and front storage is easy to get to and stores more stuff.
Nice to have storage for those 100 + mile training rides. So whenever I look at a bike I look at storage capacity. A lot of bikes look awesome and aero but when you start having to tape stuff everywhere for training rides/races just defeats the point.

I think the Falco has to be the coolest looking thing i have seen in yrs and want to love it but looking at practical side of it to. If i could afford two 10+k bike i would be buying frame tomorrow. Would love to see some wind tunnel test data still!
