FINIS Swimmer's snorkel on sale

If you haven't jumped on the snorkel train yet, I ask why not? If you say price - look no further: Woot has the original snorkel on sale for less than $20 right now.

If I recall you are a very very good swimmer. Do you use a snorkel more for gains in technique or for boosting your (breath/cardio/aerobic not certain correct term). Or maybe both?

Yes.

I use my snorkel every time I'm in the water. At least at the beginning of workout to set my stroke right during warm-up and a preset whether I'm doing specific drills, or just relaxed pace really thinking about my catch and pull.

Other times I'll use it while doing aerobic work, where I might otherwise have a specified breathing pattern (i.e. 200's pull 3/5/7/9 breathing by 50, I'll sub in the snorkel), occasionally i'll use it during speed work too.

Thanks for the heads up! This snorkel is great! I love doing sculls wearing it.

Thanks for the response Tim. I have had a Finis Freestyle Snorkel for a while and used it sparingly as part of my effort to have a limited familiarity each pool toy out there. I remember there was an article or two about snorkels here on ST a few years back. I think that's when i purchased it.

Somehow I missed the article you wrote and linked to in your reply. A very nice writeup. I especially appreciated the references to kids and how they just get in the pool and "have fun" It has been a real pleasure to watch my daughter learning to swim competitively over the past year. Their practice is primarily 25's and 50's with an occasional 200 thrown in that they all bellyache about. But there are still nothing but smiles and laughter and underwater flips between the sets.

I picked up on your background reading the "swim coaches explain to me the high yardage" post or something like that. One of the better threads and your insight was great. (I guess very very good swimmer was a pretty big understatement ;) )

Your description of how you use the snorkel makes a lot of sense to me. I can identify with the idea of tossing it on immediately to "set up" a good catch. I am in an off-season period right now where I am looking to swim 2K straight through every other day just to build up some consistency, I got the idea from Swim Smooth. I have committed to using this 2K to bump up my stroke rate with the beeper. My lazy rate is 50 spm and about 1:53/100m. When I bump that beeper up to 60 spm I am touching on 1:30 per hundred. FWIW I am 189cm.

Anyhow going to toss on the snorkel for the 1st 500 with the beeper at 53. Build it from there during the off-season.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I've purchased these two different times, swam with them each once and immediately listed them on eBay. I immediately decided that I drown just fine without them.
