I didn't realize you could win a Gran Fondo. Good that they're drug testing though.

i know that cheating sucks and that cheaters are d-bags, but this is the best acknowledgement / confession / apology i have ever read. its like David Millar. if Jackmott was here he put a pink "sincerely, LA" at the bottom.

i'll give the guy a chance at redemption just for that.

Asshole, yes, but he admitted to it and is open about it. Has to count for something.

he's not doping to win the Fondo, per se. Possibly doped up for Battenkill and other regional races.

Agree. And more than some Ironman's are doing presently. (fact check, IMC 2011).

And Rev3 and everyone else outside of WTC. Im no WTC fan, but theyve been showing a bit more character the last few months.

I am not sure what I find more distasteful and disturbing Pro's doping or amateurs doing the same to win local sportif events. Not to give them any excuses, but with the Pros, you sense some form of pressure to perform . . or else. With amateur weekend warriors doing this for recreation and a hobby, even at a high level . . . that's bordering on pathetic and in need of some professional help!

The admission came after he got caught. That counts for nothing.

Still pretty crazy ish. Is he even any good?
He doped to become a slightly better amateur pack fodder doode??

Great comment from the article - "will his Strava wins be vacated?"
<smirk>

Props to Uli for having testing at all.

Agreed, I choose to JoePa his admission for the time being and just ridicule the guy.

I think all Kona bound athletes should be tested.

Fleck, I agree it's pathetic, but just because someone isn't a pro doesn't mean they aren't pressured to perform. A lot of age groupers that make a living being a coach, a sports shop retailer, race directors, whatever. Some guys get jobs based on their age group results at sporting events. Not just "weekend warriors".

It's all disturbing.

well, he did win Battenkill as a cat 5, 4, and 3, so i guess he's a pretty good regional rider

btw, you should be able to move up one place on strava on quite a few KOMs

Doping among amateur cyclists, especially with masters riders (cause they can afford it) happens more than people think. There have been more than a few caught here in the northeast in the past few years.

I wish Papp's list would get released......

All amateur Kona bound athletes should have to pay for the test as well from approved WTC / USADA test labs.

Sure, what's the true cost? Not inflated crap, but true cost of testing? Is the testing cost the most effecient it can be?

How come I can have a company do a drug test for employees for a small fee, but there seems to be some godly amount for athletes?

looks like he just upgraded mid May from cat3--cat2

http://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=280592

not the most stellar of results, but i'm guessing he was aiming at Battenkill for the upgrade points.

not cool.

the only reason i was checking on him was to see if he was someone i have raced against...... i haven't.
