Does it matter which shoe a cycling cleat goes on?

I changed mine a month ago for my trainer and unclipping is backwards (have to turn heels in not out)

I’ve never had this issue before and thinking it’s just an issue with these cleats?

What brand?

If it’s Speedplay/Wahoo the cleats are facing the wrong way (backwards).

I know the crank brothers egg beater/candy cleats make a difference.

One way is easier than the other

The yellow shimano cleats I posted a pic but I guess it was too large.

I think these are generic and not shimano though I just grabbed what I had and vaguely remember ordering some from Amazon a few years ago.

I wore the hell out of my old pair
