Disc wheel/time improvement over IM distance
Quote | Reply
Last year I finished my first ironman- IMFlorida. I averaged about 17mph on the bike. Now that I have my first successful IM under my belt, I want to push a bit to improve my time (I'm doing IMF again this year)...and the bike happens to be my strength. My question- at a speed a bit faster than what I mentioned above, on a flat 112 mile course like Florida, would there be a significant difference (improvement) if I were to use a disc wheel? And if so, about what would that be? At this point, I have always trained and raced on the wheels that came on my QR- Velocity Deep V's.

Thanks for your input!

There is definetly an advantage of a disk over a Velocity Deep V. Because you average speed is not so high you profit less than a faster rider.
I would still go for a Disk. A Renn Disk is only $320.
