Short version: had some incredible lower back/hip pain two weeks ago to the point where I couldn't walk around or lie down. Only position that was comfortable was sitting. Made for some sleepless nights and interesting days. Don't know cause - maybe impact related from hockey... maybe training related. Went in for the follow up on some x-rays this week and the radiologist's report basically said:
- Arthritis and degenerative disc disease in L3/L4
- Disc space narrowing in the same region
Further to that the GP says based on clinical exam he is fairly certain there is a "bulging" or slipped disc at this point.
So my question is - has anyone had a similar diagnosis and what exactly is the practical implications? How did it pan out for you? Or are you a specialist that has treated something similar?
It's been two weeks for me and I have improved from the above mentioned starting point (no sleep for 72 hours) to being able to sleep without pain meds but uncomfortable with long periods of standing or walking. Am more or less functioning day to day, but with no exercise. The doc seems unwilling to speculate on the forward path at this point or what this may or may not mean sports wise.
If you have been diagnosed with something similar I am wondering if I should expect to be 'back to normal' (pun unintended) in a couple weeks or something else? Thanks for any insight you can provide.
