Dave Scott: Allow Lance to Race Kona
"Ironman legend says the shamed cyclist would bring more money and attention to triathlon if permitted to race in Hawaii"

Let the pundits chime in! (sorry if this has already been posted - I missed it, if so)

Also, Dave saying he'd race Kona again "...if they give me a bucket of money." Ah, how times have changed.

I say let him race. Maybe it will bring some more attention to the sport. It's not like he's going to win at this point (IMO).

Moot point. Unless WTC removes sanctioning, can't happen.

So Dave Scott... kindly STFU.

Not that I disagree with you, but I can't but think he wouldn't just "do it for the experience". LA is a legit competitor with years of experience at the absolute highest level. Personally I'd like to see him give a go at it. It would certainly be exciting to watch, the man is an absolute beast of a competitor.

I feel for The Man if his coaching biz isn't bringing in enough $$ these days, but I don't think elevating LA to the forefront of our sport is the best way to grow triathlon long term.

Shows the state of society. If it brings more money and attention then whatever someone does does not matter as much.

Give the guy the 2 year ban everyone else received, maintain the lifetime cycling ban, but let him move on with his life and compete in other sports.

I heard a while back that one of the Tri guys challenge Lance to a race with just the two of them. I could get behind that but to allow him into the official stuff just isnt an option. They guy cheated a lot. All the cheats need to be out of the sport.

Oh no, you don't tell Dave Scott to STFU. Before Dave Scott starts to speak the world STFU.

So Dave Scott isn't allowed to voice his opinion, is that it?

What have you achieved in the sport of triathlon that makes it OK for
you to tell Dave Scott to STFU?

Find out what it is in life that you don't do well, then don't
do that thing.

I haven't supported dopers in triathlon. So yup, I've earned the right to tell Dave Scott to STFU.

No different than a few drug induced ones who are racing of our sport now, except LA brings a lot more clout and exposure to the race. Networks would flock...

I doubt he would be in the mix at the end, but it would get some needed viewership.

Society has been there for a while. Look at what some athletes in American football and basketball, for example, have done off the field for a while. They're big money sports and a small percentage (at least known percentage) have "conduct detrimental to the team (or league)" In triathlon the money pot is substantially smaller and cheaters, and suspected cheaters, are given much less leeway. Triathlon isn't like cycling, with decades of history and legions of followers that can recover from doping scandals.

Wow, you must be the 6-time world champion at not supporting dopers in triathlon.

Myself, I don't think I've even earned the right to call The Man by his real name.

Dave Scott is absolutely entitled to his opinion, and its quite true that allowing LA to race Kona would bring a lot more attention to triathlon. Can you imagine how many more media personnel would squeeze onto the Big Island if LA was racing?

But I'm holding onto my resentment against LA not only for the massive lying and deception but also for the deliberate destruction of many lives. I'm the sort who believes LA should make a meaningful apology to the lives he ruined, and that includes monetary payments to the businesses he destroyed. Once that is done and he's served a two year ban, then I say go ahead and let him race.

Having Lance show up and not win/not podium would be good for the sport. IMO, the rest of the sports' world discounts triathlon. They just say the numbers "swim X, bike Y, run Z". Having a known top-level cheater... er, athlete... not win/podium would show just how fit/tough top level triathletes are.

I think society is tired of the LA saga. I don't think it would bring the attention that a lot of people on here think it would.

Get the Bachelor or The Biggest Loser or MTV's Sixteen and Pregnant "stars"; that will get more viewers from middle USA.

Hell, get Lebron James and it will be a smash hit.

I'm all for a race between Craig Alexander, Starky, Macca, and LA, but not sanctioned. I think it would be like giving up on trying to stand up for what is real and honest in athletics. Not really a good sign for our young athletes.

And...no one really needs to STFU...it's a forum, HOWEVER...Dave "The Man" Scott does have more interest in the tri world than most, so his opinion is heavier, but let's not make him into a god just yet....
