40-44 AG looks stacked. Just a quick gander and the names perreault and gyde jump right out. That should be a battle

I think he wants to go to kona this year though. Also fortunately for him Sam Gyde already has a kona slot

At the first bike split, or man Mirra is already riding only 1 kph slower than the Rapp/Sanders pace...what's with Mirra's almost 6 min transition....sheesh, he could have ridden the first bike segment 5 kph slower and still been faster to that point with a more efficient transition !!!

Mirra is riding 2 kph faster than Sam Gyde. Sam's been top amateur in more IM races than we can count and they are in the same age group. I say Dave is either over biking or he knows his run sucks and needs a 40 min lead on the KQ guys who will ride 5:30 on this course and then run 3:20! Sam will probably ride 4:40ish on this course and run 3:0x. Not sure what Mirra is up to right now, but he probably does not need to head out at Sander/Rapp pace to KQ. Does the chromedome know if he is using a powermeter?

I would have given him the benefit of the doubt at LP and say he did not overbike and just had a hard day on a hot run, but now looking at Sanders, Rapp, Gyde and a few others, it seems Mirra is going way hard early. Mirra and everyone will have very hot humid run. Right now the temp is around 20C and hovering over 90% humidity, by the run it will be 30C and whatever that translates to in humidity, but certainly not low (but not Houston humid either).

Sounds like good training for Cabo.

Anyhow Jordan had a really solid swim and is backing it up with the bike. I think he wins today.

As for Mirra, I have no idea if he is over biking or not but I ha no problem believing he would compete with the fastest overall pros on the bike. I mean, he did ride one for a living.

Yes, he is using a power meter and a heart rate monitor. He has a HR number he wants to stick to for the bike. I'll leave the specific number out but it's reasonable and would be smart pacing if he sticks to the plan. I know that first section already has some good hills but is it predominantly downhill since it's leaving the ski resort?

Has Sam Gyde not punched his Kona ticket yet?

I'm not seeing that. It seems Gyde is significantly outpacing Mirra at every split except 7km in.

HR numbers he is targeting? The heat & humidity are going to elevate hr, why would he not be using power targets?

True, and he adjusted for it. He's watching the power numbers for sure. Didn't mean to play that down. But he does focus on HR quite a bit as well. I've never been a HR fan.....mostly just tells me I need to slow down!

I'm still not clear how he has ever had a run split that would be sufficient to KQ, this all seems very premature.
