Cycling in the Suburbs of Baltimore
Do we have any Baltimore cyclists out there who can recommend safe cycling routes in the suburbs of Baltimore?

I’m visiting the Baltimore County area near Owings Mills, Pikesville, Falls Road and Hunt Valley and I’d be grateful for any suggestions for road biking areas.

I’m open to paved bike trails conducive to a road or tri-bike but also main roads where I won’t get run off of the road by drivers.

Thanks.

There is a rail trail that starts in Hunt Valley and runs 40 miles to York, PA. It's not paved, but it's stone dirt and very smooth, I rode my road bike on it in the early 90s. It's busy near Hunt Valley, but a few miles out it clears out. It's called the Heritage rail trail in PA and Torry Brown trail in MD, I think.

You might be able to get a heat map on strava of known routes around that area. Anything west of 83 and north of Shawan road will be pretty good riding with not too much traffic unless you hit the big roads. There is also a coffee shop (Veloccino Bike and Coffee) that is bike friendly at the intersection of Butler and Falls road. Might be a good place to park the car before heading out for a ride. I would avoid Falls Road though because people (cars) FLY up and down.

The bike trail that the other poster mentioned is good but most of the people on the trail of out for a stroll so if you're a decent cyclist you'll be passing a ton of people with dogs, children, etc.

The rail trail (NCRR/Torrey brown/etc) out of HUnt Valley is fine as a rail trail.
roads here are better than many places, but still one never knows

Balto Bike club has a few rides this weekend (http://www.baltobikeclub.org/...lendar&Itemid=72) and they're fine to have guests and generally ride the posted paces

2 group road rides. These are cyclists, not triathletes.
There is usually a fast ride out of Veloccino at 9:00 Saturday and then a sometimes slower ride 9:00 sunday. Sunday is NOT always chill. Biggest lie I've heard, "Dude's I'm trashed from yesterday and going easy." (http://www.veloccinocoffee.com/)

Joe's Bike shop ride Saturday 7:30 out of Mt Washington

Here's another loop out of Meadow Wood. There's a bathroom at the park and a rest stop the second time you cross the NCR trail.
