CycleOps Hammer @ $600 - no brainer?
I'm not up on all the current direct drive trainers and haven't really cared to upgrade from my CycleOps Fluid Pro but someone local is selling a like new Hammer (used twice, not H2). He's asking $600 including a cassette so that would be the high end. I know people love there Tacx NEOs and such but comparing $600 to $1200-1400, why would I not want to jump on the Hammer deal? DCR says the H2 is essentially the same as the original with a bunch of firmware updates. I don't care about noise level.

Jump on that. The only issue youā€™ll have is eventually itā€™ll start making a clicking noise when youā€™re coasting down. All you have to do is pull the cover off and clean the belt with alcohol or spray belt conditioner. Iā€™ve done it twice in two years of beating the thing up.

Turns out it's the H2. I offered $550 but I'll go $600 if he's firm on price.

the clicking noise is fixable by cleaning? i'll try it!
how often do you clean the drive? i'm not sure the technical term but i ride the 'bejeezus' out of mine but if cleaning it once a month solves noise - well, that i could allow for. thanks for the tip!

Thereā€™s a Hammer support group on Facebook, if youā€™re on there join it.
You have to remove the cover. 1/8ā€ (yes itā€™s made in the USA ) and two torq bolts. Either clean the belt thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth or use belt conditioner spray. Either will quiet the coasting clicking sound. Itā€™s a known issue as the belt wears. Mine is two years old, Iā€™m gonna but a replacement belt for it and have it handy in case the original breaks.

He advertised it "or best offer". Feel free to send me $50 for no reason.

Sounds like a sweet deal.

I have a CycleOps magnus and have ordered an H2 from scratch and dent sale.

Big fan of CycleOps.

Pumped to get on the direct drive train!

I have a Magnus (wheel on) and all the CycleOps test out as loud AF. I like the trainer, but the noise drives my wife crazy.

I'm closer to the feathered end of the spear than the point.

Louder than a fluid trainer? I don't really care since it's in the garage. Too late now since I just picked it up. Included a brand new Ult 6800 11-28 cassette too.

Thereā€™s a whine but it wonā€™t be nearly as loud as a wheel on trainer.

Youā€™ve never heard (or didnā€™t hear) a Tacx Neo then :)
