Could CBD blunt training effect?
We all know CBD is popular these days for its claimed recovery benefits.
It's had me wondering if the anti inflammatory properties of it could somehow blunt training adaptation. Is there any science/studies behind this?

Bio isn't really my area, so I cant speak for the validity of the studies, but it looks like in mouse trials and trials with human cells it has shown antinflammatory properties. However, I believe it's only recently been able to be studied, so the body of work is definitely incomplete. So yes, there is some science to it, but definitely needs more research.

which brings us back to the original question - while anti-inflammatory properties can be beneficial, they can also blunt the training effect... reducing excessive inflamation is good, eliminating it entirely is bad. there is a middle ground in there somewhere to aim for.

It's not necessarily good science just because it's published. Producing search results from PubMed proves little.

A systematic review might help - https://www.sciencedirect.com/...ii/S1440244017303420

THC does not enhance aerobic exercise or strength.

But I'm betting someone else could find another review that suggests otherwise.

Trust me I’m a doctor!
Well, I have a PhD :-)

The post I was responding to did not set a high bar. The challenge wasn't to find good science. Or science relevant to exercise. But any science at all.

But there is likely some good science. CBD is FDA-approved for some forms of epilepsy. I imagine that takes some legit science to pass the hurdles for that kind of approval.

Oh, yeah, and your study is not relevant to this discussion. That's THC. We're talking about CBD (cannabidiol) here.

I had a student that was going to look at CBD supplementation and recovery but after the FDA released a statement that they couldn't say CBD was safe he changed the study to test tart cherry and then COVID-19 hit and he couldn't do his study at all.
