Charging SRAM and Garmin Batteries With Newer Higher Amperage Phone Charger
Quote | Reply
Hello All,

From what I read it appears that it is OK to use 2.4 Amp Android Qualcomm Quick Charge wall and automobile chargers for charging SRAM eTap and Garmin 520 and watches.

Without the Qualcomm phone chip the accelerated charging feature is moot (but hopefully coming soon).

"When Quick Charge 4 was announced, it promised to bring even faster charging than its predecessor, allowing a device to go from empty to 50 percent in just 15 minutes. We added new technologies designed to further extend battery cycle life, enhance safety, and expand charging intelligence. These features come standard with a device that includes Quick Charge 4."

What is your take?

Cheers, Neal

Not all batteries can handle quick charging. It should default to a safe current draw though.

Perfectly safe, the device won't draw more current than it can handle.

Yep. You can hook it up to a 100 amp charger, but it's only gonna draw as many amps as its gonna draw.

Devices negotiate with the charger for higher than basic charge rates.
No negotiation and it defaults to a basic slow rate.
You can hook it up to a new 20V 5amp USB3C and it will only draw what is safe.

Have at it.
