Challenge Daytona Race Day Banter

Women pros start in an hour.

Question - are the men/women pros mass starts or time trial/COVID protocol? I would like to see head to head racing today if possible.

I think they've all been getting tested and kept in a bubble, so should be a mass start like a regular race.

It's head to head. Even for the other races that have happened this year with time trial starts, they let the pros start as a pack.

Who are we thinking for fastest splits on the day?

Men:
Swim: ??
Bike: Lionel
Run: Ali

Women:
Swim: Lauren Brandon
Bike: Nikki Bartlett
Run: Holly Lawrence

The pro women started warming up at least an hour before he race start

I never knew they warmed up so early

I’ve never watched a pro race before the start

As I posted on the other thread -- my predictions:

I was going to go all in on Nicola Spirig, but she said she's not as peak fitness - nevertheless, I still see her on the podium:

Holly Lawrence gets away on the swim, holds it on the bike, can't quite get caught on the run by

Nicola Spirig
Anne Haug

(emotional picks: Paula Findlay and Rachel McBride)

For the men,

Gustave Iden late in the run edges out
Alistair Brownlee
Javier Gomez

(emotional picks: Cody Beals and Lionel Sanders)

Holly Lawrence seemed really nervous -- the last one word answer showed it -- hopefully she can get her head in the race as I've picked her to win.

Nervousness definitely does not require to head not in the game. Quite the opposite-I would consider that a great sign she appreciates the magnitude of the opportunity and wants to seize it.

Edit-every female athlete interviewed has said they are nervous.

I understand she has the luxury of swimming at her own speed because she is in the lead

But is that negated because she has no advantage of being able to draft as well as having to waste energy siting much more than the women behind her?

How do we, as part of this community, make this the norm? Seriously, this coverage is next level. Kudos to PTO.

Swim is looking a bit short here so might limit the gaps onto the bike.

It's good, but honestly no better than any IM Live broadcast. If anything It's just as bad from the commentary perspective. It's just word vomit. As EricMPro states: the best part is when the commentators shut up. So far there hasn't been a gap of commentary.
