Canyon In Kona

Canyon owners! Have you qualified and are set to rack your Canyon Saturday morning for the big dance at the Ironman World Championships? We’ve got something special for you. And even if you're on the island to support family and friends, we've got great stuff going on for you as well.

Canyon Athlete Packet Pickup: Grab your Ironman race packet, then be sure to come by the Canyon Lounge at the Ironman Expo to collect your Canyon Athlete Packet. Inside, you’ll find killer collection of goods from Canyon and our friends at Ryzon, NUUN and PickyBars…. our gift to you for choosing to ride a Canyon. Come to the booth with your bike and your attached athlete band to claim this Canyon owner-only benefit. And be sure to stay for a minute so we can take a photo at our booth, as we’ll be posting a gallery of Canyon athletes with their rigs to our Facebook page.

Canyon Pit Stop: Pro service — for you. Canyon is providing complimentary pre-race VIP bike service to all Canyon athletes to ensure your Canyon is dialed and ready for action. We will be taking reservations in our service bay at the expo on Tuesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to noon.

Find Your Fit Breakfast: For all athletes on the island, we invite you to a rather special engagement: Thursday’s Canyon Find Your Fit Breakfast with Slowtwitch’s Dan Empfield and the Wolfgang Kohl, the German engineer behind the design of the Canyon Speedmax. Dan will be discussing a new X/Y prescriber and how it's used to find your fit on the Speedmax CF SLX, while "Wolfi" will be talking about the design of the Speedmax. We also have a first-time public unveiling to the newly-updated Canyon Speedmax Cockpit. It's a rare chance to download with Dan, as well as query the man behind the Speedmax.

Join us Thursday at 8 a.m. (immediately after the Underpants Run) at Daylight Mind Coffee Bar for a free light breakfast of coffee, scones, muffins and an eggs Benedict bar, and get a rare media-style session from these experts on the Speedmax just what makes it the fastest bike in triathlon. Canyon swag for those attending as well!

The breakfast will be invite-only and limited to the first 75 people, so be sure to get a free ticket via the link below:

https://www.eventbrite.com/...-tickets-51171087099

Autograph Sessions: Sarah Crowley (third place, 2017 Hawaii Ironman) and Carrie Lester (7th place, 2017 Hawaii Ironman) will join us for a short in-booth Facebook Live-streamed Q&As. Hang out at the Canyon booth to see their chat, fire them any questions you have about their coming races, then stay for a short autograph session from each athlete. Carrie will be at the Canyon booth Tuesday evening from 6-6:30 p.m. after the Parade of Nations, and Sarah will be joining us Wednesday morning from 11-11:30 a.m.

Win a Speedmax! Sign up at the iPad kiosk at the Canyon booth for a chance to leave the island the lucky winner of a Canyon Speedmax CF 7.0! We’ll have a live drawing Friday at noon, anyone from around the world on site is eligible, and you must be present to win.

We look forward to seeing you in Kona, and per usual, feel free to ping me here (or on site at our booth) with any questions!

-Jay

Interesting. Canyon had a pretty sleek front setup anyway, so... monostem as well? (wild guess)

Jay, will the cockpit upgrade be able to replace the current set up on the bikes and will it be available as a separate part upgrade?

Wow that’s great; so rather than advertise to potentially millions of people on the internet you will advertise to a couple thousand on an island all of whom already own bikes. Good marketing plan!!!

I sort of get it. The trailers that they show at Comicon(sp?) only get shown to a small crowd initially too, and if they streamed it over the internet, it wouldn't really be an "event" like it is now.

Also, I'm pretty positive you'll get the details eventually.

These thousand people will then take photos and share it and then it all ends up on Slowtwitch

Yep, we are forgoing a traditional press conference (though I've spoken to a few global media members that have been by our booth and let them know they are more than welcome to show up to report on it) in lieu of buying a group of folks breakfast and providing a unique opportunity to see it in person, listen, and spread the news as they like... here, of course.

And we're cognizant of the interest this event brings, which is why we're broadcasting it on Facebook Live... so you can get a look and get any question answered by Dan and Wolfgang, a session that will be rife with info..... so please do tune in. I'll be running the feed, so feel free to ask any questions (here or during the broadcast) about the cockpit's development (Jan Frodeno has been running a very prototype version of this for the last few years) changes, advantages, availability, etc. One of the big ones we've been asked at the booth is if it's retrofittable for existing Speedmax SLX owners. Good question... we'll know Thursday. Tune in!

Jay, when would the 2019 bikes be available in the US? Do you guys have a plan to handle orders better this time?

Thanks!

We are looking at first quarter of 2019, but we don't yet have firm dates. Delivery should be better, as our team now has a better grip on the tri market demands, and of course commensurate parts needs. The gears are slowly churning to life with regards to availability, etc. There may be more to learn on it tomorrow with our Facebook Live session, so log in, and chime in as it goes with any questions for the duo.

It's 'just' a narrower design, which makes sense since almost everyone was using narrowing risers anyway. Hope it also allows for tilt natively.
Lange's is 3D-printed so don't expect anything that close to his cockpit unless you're ready to pay ~10K.

Hi Jay, I think I watched the entire video, but I didn't get an answer to this question: is it retrofittable for existing Speedmax SLX owners?
(tririg says no though...) Is it the official answer?

The answer is that yes, it's technically retrofittable (using the same interface as the existing setup, and would require a new stem, basebar, stack tower set as a complete construct). But no, it's not (at least for now) going to be an aftermarket-accessible part to purchase. In talking to Wolfgang, he (and I) would love to see that happen, but for the foreseeable future, it's not going to be an option. Production for the new bar is going 100 percent to address demand for 2019 bikes.

Hi Jay, sorry to jack this, but any idea if an Ultimate with RIM brakes + Di2 coming to Canyon US this fall? I see its in Europe... Or, perhaps a Ultimate frameset w/ rim braking and electric internal? Thanks

This pretty much settles my new bike search. I will be buying a Canyon as soon as I can scrape some cash together. This is super cool!
