Canyon Endurace AL sizing

Has anyone here bought a Canyon Endurace AL? At 1.78 (5'10') i am between small and medium sizes according to the size charts, but given i am looking for something with disc brakes, a bit of compliance, but would prefer a lower head tube (hate being too high on a bike), i think it has to be either the small or some other brand. Has anyone got a small and just added whatever size stem they need ? if so, does it ride ok with a 120mm or 130mm stem?

I'll only get a bike up to this $1500 ish price tag without riding; if i get something more expensive i won't take the risk with ordering without riding.

I would contact Canyon direct, when I bought mine they were pretty good at helping answer questions around fit. In my case I simply took the fit coordinates off my existing bikes (which were done based on a Retul fitting 6 years ago), emailed them over and they told me which frame was the best fit. In my case I was buying an Aeroad with the one-piece bars so options for adjusting height were limited to spacers, and there was no way to move the bars forward or back, so not much room for error. They got it spot on, I was able to exactly replicate my existing position on a large Aeroad with one small spacer.

If you don't know your existing fit then to be honest I'd be a bit more wary of buying a bike without riding it. The next best thing would be sending them all your measurements (the website advises what they need and how to measure it, or at least it did a year ago).

They're great bikes, but no bike is good enough to compensate for not being the right size, so if you're not confident that you're getting the right thing then would go to the LBS instead.

Thank you for the feedback. i did something close to your recommendation - measured my current road bike and determined that i can get close with a stem length of between 120mm and 130mm. The bike is sold with a 90mm stem so i had some questions for Canyon on how it would handle with the longer stem. They recommended i go up a size, but i don't want to have the tall head tube that comes with the medium. i think i have to accept that i am trying to turn the bike into something it isn't and even though it was going to be my winter/rain bike i shouldn't take the chance on it handling poorly (i know it may be ok - but i have a 13cm on my 54 cross bike and it doesn't handle that well on the road).

so unless i get to ride one it will most likely be the LBS for me. i just wish the al disc bikes from the brands stocked at my 2 LBS were remotely close in spec to the Canyon. They find a way to make them weigh 2 lbs more, have lower spec components and cost more

Did you also measure the seat to bars drop on your current bike and establish whether the head tube height is actually a problem on the Medium? Most cheaper Al bikes have a fairly relaxed geometry in my experience, since they're targeted at more recreational riders.

This frame comparison site may be useful. Compare your existing frame and set-up to the Canyon and should be able to get an apples to apples fit. Just make sure the Geo on the app is the same on the bike website. I have seen one, maybe two that were using different Geo.

As you know, the Endurace is a more relaxed geometry than our more dedicated road racer, the Ultimate. So that slightly taller headtube will be inherent on that particular model. Best bet: call our crew at 833.226.9661; they're all awesome at helping you make a solid call on the right size, or considering a look at something like the Ultimate, which has a shorter headtube.

And there's truly no worry about fit; we have a 30-day return policy. If it doesn't fit (and it's not been ridden hard/wet/dirty), call us, we'll issue a return tag and will take the return. You can do a flat return, do an exchange for the right size, whatever suits you. We know that not having a bike in hand to test can be an issue, so we want to take that apprehension out of the equation; you have those 30 days to test the bike. If it doesn't fit, send it back in generally new condition, on our dime, for a return or exchange. No dramas.

At 5'10", could you really need that much bar-x on a bike with a 565mm stack?

Have you considered the Cannondale Synapse Alloy Disc? A size 54 gives you the same reach as the Canyon size M, but a stack much closer to the Canyon size S (383/570). Price/value is in the ballpark with the Canyon, and you can actually test ride one before buying. I really like the 105 SE version with the uncharacteristically (for Cannondale) subdued color/graphics combo, 19c WTB rims with 30c WTB tires, Scoop saddle, and SI crankset with subcompact rings. It's only $100 more than the Canyon or the "standard" 105 Synapse. One downside to the Synapse Alloy compared to the Canyon is that doesn't have hydraulic discs, but at least the 105-level bikes have the TRP Spyre mechanical discs which are generally regarded as the best non-hydro solution.

thank you to all for the feedback. The bike i ride the most is a Tarmac 56cm SL4 - which has a stack of 564mm and a reach of 395mm. i am riding it with a -17 100mm stem and no spacers. The AL Canyon in size small has a 565mm stack - so practically identical, but a 379mm reach. i mistakingly thought i had a 110 on my Tarmac (which led to me thinking i may need a 130mm stem on the Canyon) - so to get the same fit on the Canyon i would need a 116mm stem - and as i am not on team sky either a 110 or 120, which seems ok. if i get a medium Canyon the reach is only another 4mm, but the stack goes up to 587mm - which will be too high. So for the canyon endurace it has to be the small or nothing

i did look at the Synapse alloy (and carbon) - if i get a 54 the stack is 570 and the reach is 383. ......pretty much the same size if i get a Synapse carbon - so should be ok with a 110mm stem. i am sure my LBS can get rid of that 20mm spacer/cone thing that came with older Cannondales if they are still on the new bikes. when i started this search i was originally thinking of getting a synapse ultegra disc or the SE with ultegra. Not a fan of the aksium wheels on a lot of the cannondale discs. i have the non-disc version on another bike and they seem to be an odd choice for some of the more expensive bikes. Average at best (and heavy) so many will want to swap them out, but not cheap no brand wheels that are included with the exception that they will be swapped out.
