Cam Wurf’s Ironman 3 weeks before Kona
Already has his Kona slot and didn’t need to race.

Swim: 46:39. Sets a bike course record in Italy and is forecast to run a 2:47 (race still underway) with no one threatening.

I’d say it’s a suicide mission for most but for him it’s so crazy it might just work.

How do people think his run legs are going to be in 3 weeks time?

He’s not exactly known for his intelligence or his run legs. He won’t crack top 10 in Kona.

I’m not sure he had the run experience in his legs to ever be world class at the distance. He’s said all along that once his run develops everyone better take note (I believe him). I’m curious to know if and when that happens.

Not sure what else he has to do to prove himself, he’s gonna finish a great swim with a bike course record and a 2:47-48 run for a 7:50. And that on a slow bike course! Will be a real contender in a few weeks

Big improvement on his marathon, and he looked under control the whole time on the run. Impressive swimming too, and biking as usual.
Looks pretty fresh at the finish interview as well!

Really impressive! This guy goes against all the standards of training..but, here we have it. I would not be surprised if he steps the podium in Kona...
One more guy to be aware of....

About recovery....i dont think this will change his performance, but sure, he has raced too much this season.
Anyway, it seems to me he is the kind of animal with just one target in his mind and giving it all, no matter what.

Spaniard. Sorry for my english for the sensitive ones :P

Based on his strava feed this 2:45 does not surprise me in the least. But, why oh why is he doing it 3 weeks out? He was my pick to win Kona, but you don't recover from a 2:45 marathon in 3 weeks to do it again. WTF is he thinking? Obviously he knows something we do not, but I don't get it.

If you look at his run today, his HR was not as high as it sometimes is when he races, and it doesn't look like he went into the red...but logic would say it's a big risk 3 weeks out. Even if he doesn't think so now, fatigue might show its head in Kona.

That’s the 10 million dollar question. Will he get a monster training stimulus from today or did he overcook it in his tune up race.

We’ll know on October 12th!

Exactly - what a race from him.

What I really like is at least he tries something different. We are so packaged into the same old beliefs and methods.

Then whether it goes right or wrong, he fronts up, does interviews that are interesting and tries new things to improve.

Good on him, and great race today.

Super impressive performance by Wurf. I probably wouldn’t be racing full iron three weeks before Kona, but this has to be calculated. Regardless, what a confidence booster for him.

/sarcasm... Cam would’ve laughed. That said, I believe going this hard 3 weeks out was a mistake.

It might be that he could have run a 2.41 but didn't and that has 'saved' him.

On a podcast recently Brownlee was saying the recovery difference between a 1.09 and a 1.07 for a half (I presume in a tri but he wasn't specific) was huge, with one taking you out for days and the other being back on your feet full gas a couple of days later, and the same between a full gas 10k and one only about 30 seconds slower.

What happened to Tim Don? He doesn't even have a swim split.
