For anyone interested and saw Jan's Instagram post earlier this week (https://www.instagram.com/...rce=ig_web_copy_link), the "Breitling Squad" will be racing the Coronation Double Century (affectionately known as "DC") in South Africa this weekend, in aid of the Qubeka charity. https://www.breitling.com/...riathlon-squad-23833

The team to race apparently will include:
  • Jan Frodeno
  • Daniela Ryf
  • Chis McCormack
  • The Brownlee Brothers
  • Ronnie Schildknecht
  • Nino Schurter (Olympic and UCI MTB World Champ)
  • Vincenzo Nibali (4-time cycling Grand Tour winner)

DC is one of the most popular annual road races in South Africa, due to its unique format. It is basically a 202km, team time trial event (standard road bike) based in the small farming town of Swellendam in Western Cape Province. Teams comprise 12 riders, and you need to finish with 6 together (there is a separate category for all 12 finishing together, as well as for women's and mixed teams, etc). It's very social, other than for a few pro and semi-pro cycling teams who take the event seriously. We often get a few big name cycling pros racing, who make an appearance for charity/training/fun and show the amateurs how easy it is riding 200km in their off season.

The race passes through some of the most stunning scenery and landscapes in all of SA, but is extremely tough with over 2100m of climbing, usually very windy and, being high summer, temps typically getting into the mid- to high-30s Celsius. It is seriously hard, but the feeling of achievement finishing it with your team mates is like no other.
If you are ever thinking of doing a cycling race in SA this is one you should definitely try to do. See: https://coronationdc.co.za/...tion-double-century/

Very sad to be missing it this year, especially with the triathlon royalty in town.
