Block of v02- how long?
Hi all- I have been doing vo2 workouts on the bike once per week every week (minus recovery here and there) since around Christmas. Some days I’m amped for the workout other’s I’m struggling. Race results have been good and I believe they have helped (all sprints)

Just wondering though is there a point of diminishing returns with this sort of workout? Do the lose there effectiveness a bit? Depending on how I feel other weekly workouts usually consist of sub threshold ride for longer duration and group rides. I have a few sprint races left but also an oly in 3 weeks as well as a half in 7.

I don’t mind vo2 workouts but I won’t lie, some days I dread them after doing them for around 8 or so weeks.
Is it time to change that workout up? By doing so would I lose sprint/ top end power? Or just suck it up since I’m racing well? Cheers

Personally i do them until my power at VO2 max is more than 115% of my FTP or 5 to10 weeks worth.

When I work on my top end it tends to increase pretty rapidly so I tend to back off once I can tell I am plateauing. If it is becoming too mentally draining that is a good time to bail as well.
