Bike fit critique
Hi all,
I got fitted by my bike shop some time ago now and have since taken 20mm of spacers out of the extensions. Just after some advice on some improvements to my fit. Position feels comfortable however I do get numb in the nether region after 30km or so.

Any help is appreciated.

Certainly not an aggressive position and you are quite upright so if you are getting numb the saddle you're using would be a start. Have you tried just moving you're saddle slightly forward or back? Exactly where you are perched in relation to the saddle curves can make a lot of difference. Not knowing saddle you are using and absolutely nothing appearing out the back I would start moving it back say 5mm to start and see how feels. Mark where it is now and start making slight step by step adjustments to see if any feel better.

Thanks for the reply,

It’s just the standard prologo zero tri saddle. I’ll try moving the seat back as suggested and see if this helps. Any other suggestions on becoming more aero?

Seat height is good.

Armpads need to be moved forward about 3 cm to stretch you out considerably. You are way too compact. To do that, you will need longer (and different) extensions. I recommend these:

They are cheap, light, long enough, and have excellent ergonomics.

You might also consider the carbon version or the 51 Speedshop extensions.

And once you have longer extensions, angle the extensions (and pads) up a few degrees.

I agree with the post above that you need to /could stretch out more but without pulling your whole position apart and it looked like your bike would need new extensions I thought best to just try and deal with the numbness issue. Often you get so many people going to many ways on here it becomes a waste of time. Hence my suggestion move the seat back and will help to stretch you out and see how feels.

WTF is wrong with these bike shops. There are so many terrible fits coming out of so many shops it's not even funny. I'm not taking a stab at you so please don't take it like that in fact I feel your pain. Four or five years ago when I started I got some absolute dogshit fits that I paid more money for than I'm willing to admit. I eventually got a quasi decent fit and then took it upon myself to read everything I could absolutely get my hands on.

Thanks all for the replies. I live in Western Australia and there does not appear to be many shops that specialise in Triathlon. The shop I bought my bike from didn't have any triathlon bikes on display, however they are my local shop and have always been most helpful with anything I need. I'll start by moving my seat back a bit and take it from there (I'm assuming there would be more suitable seats as well) , I can see how my extensions would now be too short to stretch myself out so that will be the next thing to look at. Thanks for the advice.

Scotty 81, I was interested to note that you're in Australia as I have reservations about getting a good tri fit here, or at least finding someone who does it well. I have had a tri fit from a very highly regarded fitter here that has (I think) served me well, however, the more I read about fit, the more I'm convinced that mine isn't a good one. Comparing my stack/reach to Slowman's orthodoxy chart, I'm way, way off getting anywhere close to the 'typical' range. I'm in the process of building up a new bike to fit coordinates based on what I've learned from Slowtwitch. I know this doesn't help you in any way, but just though I'd let you know that I feel your pain!

I need to amend my post.
Along with seeking out reading material guys like Eric, Trent, Lia and several other STers have been a huge help!

Hopefully not because of my post: I agree, the info from everyone you mention is extremely useful. If we move to Texas I'll be taking a trip to see Trent in Plano!

Ok so i've mucked around with my seat a bit and been on a few rides over the past couple of days with no change to numbness. I've decided to order a new saddle (ISM 3.1) to see if that helps, i've also ordered the recommended bar extensions to stretch myself out a bit. In regards to angling the bar extensions and arm pads up a couple of degrees, what is the easiest way to do this? Are there wedges that I can buy to suit the felt base bar or should I be grinding two of the spacers that came with the bars down?

10/10 would recommend a bike fit at Endurance Movement. It's a really comprehensive process that looks at physiology, comfort and aerodynamics. I did one recently and got a lot out of it and have felt great on the bike ever since.

I'm not 100% sure what base bar you have but can't you just loosen the two bottom bolts that tighten the extensions in place and rotate the entire pad/extension?
