Best Training Location

Looking for input as to the best training location for a 10-day to two week training camp in July or August with a focus on swimming and cycling. So 25m or ideally 50m pool close by, and some great roads to ride on with some moderately big climbing and variable terrain.

Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Thanks.

Chamonix - 50m - only real problem is the ride in / out. It's safe but you have to go one way or t'other to get to a bigger variety BUT running is awesome

Grasse / antibes - two 50m pools. Grasse is outdoors and bluntly its the best riding I have ever come across

My sister in law does mallorca. Check out what pools are there but she swears the riding is just the best. May be a bit hot

Sion - https://www.valais.ch/...-pool-l-ancien-stand

More riding than you can shake a stick at there and you can act out scenes from Heidi or the sound of music

If Switzerland a bit pricey but you can do; verbier, grand and petit Bernard, forclaz, lac emosson etc

Back to France

Megeve is really cool. Solves the problem of getting out of the cham valley (I'd always stay in cham but that's by the by)

Running anywhere above is amazing

As is the riding

The othe t great place is morninf. Don't know what the pool situation is but the riding, running and general atmosphere is super cool

Why Lubbock? What's the heat like in July/August?

I'm guessing that should be pink. I can't think of a reason to recommend anywhere in Texas in July August and I'm a native.

Unless you like really hot....

Bend, Oregon. Dry, 80-90, very rarely rains. 50m pool outdoor. Lots of road cycling, tons mtn biking. 3500 in town, elevation nearby up to 7k if desired. No beer though. Great running trails. Bike, tri, running groups galore if you want to drop in. And much more.
Durango Colorado.

Do Santa Monica. You can swim with the Tower 26 Swim squad at the pool sessions plus the Wednesday morning open water session. Time your 10 days right and you can do two of the open water sessions.

Riding is great too, Phil Gaimon lives there for a reason.

Barcelo:

Occidental lanzarote mar.

From Kamloops and spent two weeks there in April.

The best 50m pool on the planet...(well personal opinion)

All inclusive (1800 euro 3k$ can for booze food etc 15days)

Rent bikes, carry on only.

Cheaper than Maui....which is saying something as it took us 20 hours to get there.

Look at TO->Dublin then Dublin->ace. Are lingus etc.

We spent the past 5 or so years in Maui and needed a change.

Cheers,
Maurice

Look into Bozeman, Montana. It’s like a less populated Boulder. ~4500 feet elevation

There is a 50m pool (though it does have a dungeon type feel to it). Lots of good climbs (north of town on Jackson road and towards Bridger bowl ski area, south towards Hyalite canyon). Hop over to Livingston and ride on East River Road towards Yellowstone National Park - a very low traffic road where you are pinned between a gorgeous mountain range and a nice river.

Good mountain biking and trail running as well. It might be hot, but it’s a dry heat

Probably too close to home for you but you can't beat the Collingwood Ont area. You know it well. There are great running trails, swimming in Georgian Bay (Sunset Point Park) in July / Aug is a good as you can get. The local pool is ok with lane swimming each morning. The cycling community is great and there is all the climbing you want on good roads as well as great flats for interval training.

Can't be that bad if Frodeno spends summer time and builds a house there... ;-)

Other than that: Always a good spot, even if it can get rather hot: Las Playitas or La Santa on Canary Islands (Spain).

I'd only recommend Mallorca outside the summer months. Summer's insanely hot, and the bus/tourist traffic can be a pain in the ass. Come to Ottawa... swim in the Ottawa River (Lac Deschenes is nice, and you can have lunch on the deck at Nepean Sailing Club post-swim). Hit the Gatineau Park for some beautiful cycling and vistas, some decent climbs, and a swim in Meech lake... probably the nicest body of water locally for swimming, and a hub for local triathletes. The parkways are closed to traffic on Sundays, so there's opportunity for some car-free cycling on regular roads. Plus, there's all kinds of fun non-triathlon stuff to do in Ottawa in between workouts. For pools, Richcraft in Kanata (west Ottawa) has a very nice 25m pool. The universities have 50m pools. There are tons of other options for public swimming pools, hit up the City of Ottawa website to find one close to where you're staying.

Tremblant : Indoor pool, open water swimming, great roads, good climbing and variable terrain, lots of accommodations, unique charm, great exchange rate.

I stayed at Cycling Girona a few years ago and can recommend it. The location has a nice mix of roads flat/rolling and mountains to give you a mix of training, plenty of trails for running. The onsite pool is good and Banyoles is not far away for open water swimming (and also has a 25m pool). Gareth and Fiona are very welcoming. The only downside is that the hotel is a short way down a dirt road, so make sure you have robust tyres and don't mind getting your bike dirty if it rains.

Rocacorba is a climb often used by the pros for training

[edited size of Banyoles pool - I only used the onsite pool]

I'm going back to Maui next month. Still loving it. Free pools, perfect weather, great cycling but limited routes.

Next year, back to Europe probably.
However, Western Europe in July and August anywhere nice is bonkers busy and pricey.
Fighting with the locals and other vacationers for pool time, busy roads, etc..

One place I have been looking at is Makarska, Croatia.
Swimming: amazing open water, 50m pool.
Cycling: Sveti Juri (google it) and riding along the twisty coastal roads. Day trips to Brac, Hvar island or maybe a trip into Bosnia?
Running: unknown

Croatia is still relatively inexpensive by Euro standards.
The food and wine is incredible.

Ian and Julie Wright's place in the Pyrenees. If it's good enough for Scott Molina and the Epic Camp, then I think it would do.

Cheapest.... Coeur D'alene. Swim both in the lake and in the 25 yd KROC pool.

Next cheapest.... Victoria BC . Open water and pools.

Money is unlimited... New Zealand...

I live in CDA and you can train your balls off here pretty efficienly here. But I have always wanted to go to NZ....

If you are looking for swimming and cycling training, I think Vancouver, BC should be on top of your list.

We were vacationing on Vancouver last month and swam in the muni Kitsilano pool everyday, 150 yds long, heated salt water, right by the Kits beach, and only $4 for the whole day. The Vancouver aquatic center is also pretty close by and have open 50 meter lane swim times each day. Again, $4.

In terms of riding, there are a tons of good routes in and around Vancouver. The famed Sea to Sky highway has a bike lane all the way from West Van to Whistler, about 60 miles or so. Pretty steady climbs. You can do loops also in Stanley Park, around UBC, up to Cypress, or ride to Stevenson if you want some flat roads. People there are quite bike friendly.

On top of all that, the US/CND$ exchange rate is pretty good for us Americans right now.

Hard to beat the weather in northern New England (ME, VT, NH) in July and August. Most pools are indoor but offset by some of the cleanest and most beautiful lakes anywhere. Th lake I swim in has 35 foot water visibility by August. For the most part motorists are great to cyclists too.
