Planning to sign up for the full waffle. Pretty sure I don't have an appropriate bike but I'll worry about that later...

I'm in again.

As for appropriate bike... I just put the widest tires that would fit on my road bike (27mm) and went for it.
Probably do the same for 2020.

One mistake I made was using my regular road shoes and speedplay pedals. BAD IDEA with the amount of sand on the course. Clipping in/out was impossible in the last 30 miles.

I did the wafer last year and had a blast. Going to try for the full waffle this year after learning a ton last year. Such a fun group, route, and community.

I signed up. How durable of tires do you need for this? I can fit 32c conti 5000s on my Felt FR disc, but thinking a slightly narrower tire with more grip & flat protection might be the ticket?

I rode 28C slicks with tubeless and sealant last year. You don't really need flat protection except in a few spots if you get lazy with your line.
Although... that being said, I did see a lot of flats.

For the wafer last year I used Maxxis Speed Terrane. 33s on Felt 3X. Had no grip or handling issues (read stayed upright even through the sand) and they rolled pretty well on the road but there to finish and have fun.
