Ask me anything about anything.

Really. I dare you. If I dont know I'm asking Andrew Coggan or Desert Dude. Between the 3 of us, we know everything about everything. It's true. No Paulo required.

Is it true that there's a secret passcode required at mile 6.3 of every half IM run course? I ask because I don't know what will happen when I do more than an Olympic

If you had 10 hours to train bike to be a cyclist (starting cat 5), what would you suggest schedule wise?

Sony Xperia Z1. It's waterproof out of the box, cheap, 5 inch display. It can help your crappy ass swim with underwater video.

2 x 20 or Threshold Dice 3X weekly (4 hours) + 1 Spirited Ride in your aerobars. Low VI, tempo power Pretty much balls out trying to beat your time on a given course (2.5 hours) + 1 longer more variable ride. Either group or mountain bike. Higher VI, lower power. (3.5 hours)

Every 12 weeks just do whatever you want for one week. Twice a year, do a 2-3 weeks of 5 x 5 VO2 sessions, twice weekly instead of the 3 x threshold sessions.

Edited to add - Oh yeah, fucking bike race.

How does one properly pace the 20 minute FTP test for the most accurate results? Assume I have an 8 month old FTP as a baseline. Let's say 200W.

After 4:30 you are feeling good, thinking you will likely exceed the goals you set out for yourself.
By 5:00 self doubt creeps in. Should you somehow decide to continue...
By 8:00 you know you will fail, but figure you'll just "get the number".
Between 10:00 and 12:00 something similar to the desperation of a suicidal coward falls over you. Too far to turn back, impossible to continue.
At 15:00, you find the person deep within you that knows you can do anything for just five more minutes.
At 16:00 you tell that person to go fuck themselves.
Between 17:00 and 19:00 you want to be happy, but you can't. You just can't. You know you've succeeded but the slightlest acknowledgment guarantees failure.
The final minute is like having your first powerful orgasm with another human at the same time that you lose your anal virginity to a silverback gorilla.

I had an interesting conversation with another triathlete today who is currently training with Brett Sutton. There seems to be 2 prevailing thoughts on training.

1. High intensity work and keeping the body fatigued.

2. High volume work and building the body up with a strong base.

What is your opinion on the balance of intensity and volume in training? Or do you switch depending on sport, athlete, time of the season, etc.?

Why does ST's spell check think the word "triathlon" might be misspelled?

Find out what it is in life that you don't do well, then don't
do that thing.
