SCM or SCY TBD...
SCM would be interesting. The Indiana pool is old, but has been fast for a long time.
I was actually thinking of going to the SCM Canadian Nationals this year, but for a bunch of reasons it just didn't work out.

Hopefully you'll make it up sometime. I'm not going this year, but I should be there next year barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Don't know where they will be yet.

I'm going this year. Probably the only year I will train as much as I have this winter so I figured I might as well take advantage.

Yeah, you're swimming well this year, take advantage while you can.

I have no chance of getting close to the 2:04 200 I did last year, not much pint in going just to be mediocre.

3300 SCM this morning.

Some interesting conditions - at one point there were 6 of us sharing 2 lanes but there was no lane rope between them (lazy guards), no one was circle swimming and I was trying to squeeze in some fly here and there when I wouldn't be smashing into anyone. Good times...

just realized the entry deadline for provincials was last night. I thought it was midweek.

I'm trying to weasel my way into the 50 fly 50 free and 100IM.

That'll be enough for me.

Back in the pool today. Unfortunately I missed two workouts last week as I had to head to Northern Michigan for business. I asked my coach to change things up as I have a small attention span and was getting bored of 15x100, 50x25, etc.

Today's workout

800y warmup
8x(50, 100, 50 descending)
200y cool down.

That was a more enjoyable set as I had to put a little thought into the 50's to make sure the pace went down with each interval...not a lot of thought, but enough to keep me interested at least.

Coming up on SCY Masters Nationals in Riverside, California, starting Thursday.
So, beginning my taper (of sorts).
But, to backtrack:
4/21
Afternoon Ocean Swim - 2845 yards in 41 minutes. Water is slightly warmer at 60ish degrees F. But big rolling surf, wind chop and crashing shorebreak. Lot's of fun!

4/22
Morning Ocean Swim - almost the same as yesterday with 2771 yards in 40 minutes. No wind, but still big surf and, forgot to mention, thick kelp - so hard to get through that crap.

4/23
Morning Pool Swim
500s
5x100 kwf
10x50@1:00 sprint BR down/ez FRback
10x50@1:00 sprint FR down/ex FR back
5x100 alt br kick/IM
10x50 BR alt BR/ BR kick
3000 yards in 52 minutes

4/24
Morning Pool Swim (Start taper thing)
500s
4x250 kwf
5x50@:50 fr ez down/hard back
5x50@1:00 br hard down/ez back
2000 yards in 40 minutes

I think I'm gonna play around in the ocean this afternoon, nothing special, just meander about for a couple more thousand yards.

Please talk to use about benefits of the drag chute and if us tourists can benefit?

On the breast stroke, I have been doing 2-3 strokes completely under water pulling hard after pushing off the wall. I realize this is illegal, but I am finding that I am getting a better feels for the entire stroke when submerged and seems to be doing things better under water. Also the other day there was a superstar 200IM girl from UBC at the pool practicing her breast (mainly that day, she did other strokes too), and she was saying on the breast kick it should almost feel like heels are coming up and almost kicking the butt. This seems to be helping.

I realize that I only have 5 days to do the half IM worth of IM "challenge" to myself, but i may miss the last 2 days of the month as I might opt for a cortisone injection in my disk that I am due for to see if it can put me over the hump for biking and running "normally". Once I meet with the neurologist on Thu, we will make a decision. I think he is going to be positively surprised by my overall progress, so he may opt for the "wait and see" plan. At first he was 99% sure I should go for surgery, but after the first shot, I made a fair amount of progress to the point he thought to defer any surgery and probably only 20% that I would need it. Right now I am thinking I won't need it at all and maybe even survive without the next cortisone shot (I only had one so far). I any case, if I am going to do the challenge I better get it done before 10:30 am on Thu when I go in for the appointment.

Yes you want to lift the heels up vs pulling the knees down and forward to get the feet in position.

Small chute might be an option... big one is really strong. A drag suit with mesh pockets might be better for you though.

I find the chute allows me to feel my stroke under a higher load. I can feel if my right hand is not catching the way it should right away along with some other stroke quirks. On Fly sets it's a real strength builder and unlike paddles my stroke rate is similar to swimming without. I find fly with paddles changes my stroke rate unless add fins and the mismatch while not awful is not there with a small chute.

10.7 mi run for no particular reason; 1200 yd swim. Decided to see how intervals felt. I am still having a little bit of SI joint pain and did not kick off the turns. 12 x 100 with two on 1:35 and the rest on 1:30.
