Re: Anyone riding disc wheels for training rides? [125mph]

Speaking for myself, no ... I generally do not train on my disc. However, I'll put it on for a couple of rides prior to a race so I'm used to the handling and I'm confident there are no performance/maintenance issues.

Not a disc wheel, but once I put my disc cover on I it's not coming off for a while

It's a bad idea. It comes up monthly in the forum. Here are some reasons why:
- More expensive than a training wheel.
- More noise.
- Rocks will ruin it.
- Catches wind.
- Sometimes more weight.
- Putting air in it is way more difficult.
- Some discs cannot be trued.
- You will look ridiculous.

I'd put in on for a pre-race ride to make sure everything was tuned right. Otherwise, only on race day.

ditto. mine is on the bike, sitting in the trainer. i rode it this morning.
i have a wheel cover, not a disc, so my investment is only $100. and i followed the ST method of taping the drive side prior to install. it is bullet proof.
if i had some $2K Zippy wheel, then perhaps i'd reconsider.

When I rebuilt my Zipp 2001 I put a Hed 3 on the front and a Zipp 900 disc on the rear and I haven't taken them off for hundreds and hundreds of miles, racing and training.

So that's like a week?

Re: Anyone riding disc wheels for training rides? [125mph]

Yep. Probably about half my training on a zipp sub9 Disc. I'm just freaking lazy and too cheap to buy a third powertap wheel (one pt disc, one for the road bike, it seems like plenty of spending). Second year doing it, no issues to date. Not bad in the wind with a 404 front. Discs are nearly as durable as spoked wheels except during travel when they are suseptible to dents. One has to plan around tire wear a little bit more but it's not hard to put a new tire on 1-2x for a races. I can't do anything about how geeky it looks except focus on the I don't give a damn part.

Oh how I WISH I had the legs/money/time to ride "hundreds and hundreds of miles, racing and training" in like a week. :-)
