Andy Potts deserves some love
Andy by all accounts is a good dude; and consistently performs well in Kona.

Given his size and age to rip off a sub 3 IM marathon is really impressive.

Totally agree! I just made a post in another thread about him, before seeing this. 7 top 10s, and 8:09 at 42yrs old.. Not too shabby!

Awesome Andy! AND, there is not a more humble and gracious person...anywhere :-) (maybe Matt Russell, ok, actually there are several super humble and friendly pro triathletes)

Agreed, he is one of the friendliest guys in the sport and always takes the time to interact with participants at his races.

Amazing performances by all the top finishers. But arguably the athlete Id most like to interview about his prep and his race is Andy Potts
Congrats Andy!

Being over 40 too

Was thinking the same thing yesterday as I saw the results. I didn't see his name in the top 10 at all through the day but then saw him there at the finish, very impressed and even more happy for him!

My first exposure to Triathlon was at the Timberman Tri in NH.

I ran the half as part of a relay team. I sat in the shade for most of the day waiting for my turn to run. Next to us was a young family. Super nice people. I don’t remember if Andy came in first or second, but I do remember that he cane and sat down next to us. It turns out that it was his family next to us.

It made a huge impression on me. The idea that pros and amateurs compete on the same course and same day. The fact that a front of the pack pro was so genuine and humble. All this made me very interested in a sport that I hadn’t paid much attention to. A bunch of years later it got me swimming and into triathlon.

The only thing I begrudge about Andy is that he raced on a slice which contributed to my decision to purchase one as my first Tri bike.

8th is ok. It feels like he's racing for top 10, not for the win anymore. Most guys racing for the win so taking opportinuty from that. Nothing wrong with that. Just a bit boring

That’s probably true. He’s been consistent but has anybody been threatened by him, specifically at kona?

Did he ride the new Ceepo? I don’t think he did. Maybe he would have won...

Thanks for the tip on the Facebook video recap. He seems pretty stoked.

Interesting to hear that he went with 50% outdoor rides leading into Kona. Historically he has been a big pain cave trainer guy.

Andy has been amazing in Kona.

He was completely silent coming in this year. I believe that his been his "thing" the past few years. Avoid all distractions, arrive Thursday, race Saturday, fly out Sunday.

While it's less time in front of people for his sponsors, I think his attitude and race results more than make up for the limited time he spends on the island.

Never say never, but it seems his window to win this race may have come and gone. However, he is still putting out great results year after year.

I just looked back on his results, he has been in the top 10 6/9 with an 11th, 17th, and 21st on his "bad" days.

2009: 9th
2010: 21st
2011: 17th
2012: 7th
2013: DNS (Nerve injury, pulled out day of)
2014: 4th
2015: 4th
2016: 11th
2017: 7th
2018: 8th

I have a feeling this may have been his final trip, but I hope we get him for one more year. But if this was it, running himself into another top 10 at age 42, well that is a great way to go out.

One more year Andy!

I don’t even understand why he was signed up for that race.

Amazing that he can bounce back so quick.

I wonder when he registered for the race.
