So Alistair went “easy”with a 1:58 bike split, and now is running to a 1:05/1:06 half marathon(First 10km in 31:Xx)
What a beast!

Incredible, he said during the interview that Kona remains an ambition but highly unlikely he will do it in 2018, who knows
Ann Haug is storming to the finish line in the ladies, now she will be the one to watch if she steps up to full distance

Out front all day alone, no reason to push, runs a 1:09. After a 1:58 bike.

He didn't really look like he was pushing at all on the run.

Really strong performance, 6 months after a hip operation.

Amazing race!

Is there a place where you can find the fastest 70.3 times? I can only find 140.6 fastest times but not 70.3. I guess this race would be up there. Same for the women.

Lazy sod. It's a shame he's not a decent half marathoner, jogging into a 1.09. He's going to struggle in this sport.

Insane race by Ali! He is definitely in a league of his own. Looked like he could have run 1:08 or maybe high 1:07 if pushed. I’m betting he will do his first im marathon under 2:35

Nor me, I keep checking back to see what nonsense the Sanders Fan Boys are spouting, though it's still 5am on the East Coast, so most of them are still in bed.

He would have been 5 min behind...
Sanders might as well hang up a pic of Brownlee instead, as he will be the new king of Kona

well, it's not exactly apples-to-apples, but:

ali in 2018: 3:35 ( 22:36 - 1:58.51 - 1:09:36)

javi in 2017: 3:42 (24:11 - 2:03:52 - 1:10.44)

Those swim times are certainly interesting, but as you say it's not really a fair comparison overall, especially considering Javier won 2017 by a relatively comfortable margin (>2 mins) as well. Roll on the 70.3 WCs because I think that's going to be the first time we actually see them race a 70.3 head-to-head.

Has anyone heard if Gomez is planning on racing any of the ITU WTS this year? The ITU website still has a profile for him but says "No Upcoming Events", just wondering if/what he's said about his intentions to the media?

Well the same can be said for Alistair, 8 min is fairly comfortable ;) will be awesome to see 70.3 worlds though my money is on Alistair with some stupid fast time

You can see why he is rumoured to find this sort of racing a bit less engaging. He would have soft tapped the swim comfortably, then spent 3 hours alone just managing pace. It may be different at World Championship level, but that's just once a year whereas the top ITU guys face off several times a year.

Wow - regardless of course and conditions, that’s moving...

I would be very worried about Haug were I a LC pro female... Fair to middling ITU swim is good enough for long course with the way she bikes and runs.

no way an ITU guy can time trial for 90 or 180km
