Aero socks?

Is there such a thing?

If the thread suggesting shoe covers don’t save time is to be believed and we should race in just shoes, then are there any aero socks that would compliment this?

I guess Lycra socks would work, any suggestions?

well, they’d have to have dimples we know that for sure…

Really???

LOL

I’m sure Specialized can use their new wind tunnel to find out.

I’m pretty sure a company came out with something this year. I’m trying to find it.

Of course they exist.

Here you go. Looks like it is a lycra ankle.

Compression socks/sleeves with ribbed surfaces (ex: CEP, Zoot) have been shown to save significant time in the windtunnel by increasing airflow adhesion on the calves and reducing the turbulent wake.

Wouldn’t our hairy legs act as “dimples” thus more aero than wearing socks?

If leg hair is long enough, it’s totally aero. Works just like those wavy duck-tail road helmets.

A couple of years ago some fast time trial riders were racing in socks that had a furry strip down the front. It was supposed to trip the airflow and lower drag around the lower leg and calf. The socks were questionable from a UCI legality standpoint and I’m not sure how well the theory was proven in terms of whether they were measurably faster. I haven’t seen or heard anything about this in the last couple of years so perhaps it didn’t pan out or was shut down by the race officials.

The UCI recently (within the last year or two, I think?) mandated a maximum sock length to prevent riders from wearing compression-sock-like garments.
