If your talking Ironman, places in Kona town book a year in advance. I was lucky to get a room in 2001 from Premium Sports. Seems most of the rooms are booked by travel agents knowing that they'll sell. If you don't mind the drive, places outside of town will be easier to find (keauhou, waikaloa). Otherwise search the net and start dialing.
