ASU has 2 pools, one on the north end of campus (Mona Plummer Aquatic Center) which has limited hours to public swim (I think noon-1:30pm) and evening (6-7pm?).
The other pool, on the south end of campus, is the Student Rec Center pool. That's open all day from 9 or 10am (well, it was when I was going to ASU), but they make it somewhat difficult for non-ASU folks to get in sometimes at the front desk. Oh wait...maybe just click the link above.
Now, if you're in Mesa in the afternoons/early evenings, I can hook you up.

Please note this statement from the website:
1 mile = 36 LAPS or 72 LENGTHS of the pool (emphasis mine).
Just trying to stir the pot :-)
