4x100 men

The final tomorrow is going to be outstanding! The US broke the WR with a B team, France broke the Euro record, only 12 100th behind the US in the other heat, with 2 of its main swimmers not in the water.

This is going to be the most exciting race on the entire swimming program. My pick:

Gold: France
Silver: USA
Bronze: crapshoot between South Africa and Australia

FRA didn't swim its best 1.

Best 2 (one of whom is the best 1 in the world, the other is #6).

Fred (Bosquet) is the real wildcard in the final. He had an amazing prelims swim, but I don't think he's ever put together two great swims back to back in international competition. And I say that as someone who's had Fred on their 'If the Americans can't pull it off, that's who I want to win' list since his Auburn days.

So Bernard says "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came for."

Sounds like it's on.

so much for that american dominance of swimming ;)

kitajima's 100 breast! wow! he glides way more than the others, wastes them on the turns, and is the smallest in the field! (or thereabouts)

I figure that the US can go at least .5 seconds per person faster for the 3 that didn't swim the prelims. At least two of them should be in the 46+ range (rollers), if not all 3 of them. Cullen hopefully can at least match what he did in the prelims, it was an all out effort for those guys, one spot for the 4 of them. The WR is going to be crushed, probably a 3:10+. I think the French can be right there too. They will need to lead off with one of their faster swimmers in my opinion, if they get behind at all, it will be over mentally for them. Does anyone know the US order? One of the 100 qualifyiers lead off maybe, and Phelps anchor is my guess.....

I think I just woke up the whole apartment complex :-)

The best part is seeing how pumped Phelps gets for the relay events.

Jesus Christ! That was was fucking amazing! The WR was absolutely shattered not by 1 team, but by 3 teams! Absolutely incredible! Holy shit. Wow. That is the most amazing show of putting your head down and making yourself hurt for your team and for the gold!
