4 months post Grade 2 PCL tear
I am a few days away from 16 weeks from my PCL tear. It was diagnosed by several opinions as a grade II, closer to 1 than 3. I was told to expect about an 8-12 week recovery and then I should be back to normal. While I am getting much better, there feels to still be a weakness and instability to it that I cannot get rid of, despite doing a PT recommended program 3x/week (on my own).

My question is at this point, should I consider paying for a PT program? Or am I just being impatient and should continue doing what I am doing? I don't really see how it will change if I head into a clinic, but at the same time, I feel that I've been at about 90% healed for the last few weeks, and am ready to move resume back to normal training.

ooh, finally something in my area of expertise.

first, pcl deficient runners/cyclists do great. I don't think it is public knowledge, but to be vague about it, former american record holder on the track was (is) pcl deficient. I know of 4 folks playing in the NFL who are PCL deficient. I'm sure there are more.

pretty much everyone follows the Albright protocol for this. It is meant for ACL deficient knees, but same principles apply.

you don't necessarily need a PT to take you through this, if you are reasonably handy with rehab things.

If you have access to an academic library, here is the paper:

Good practical summary:

Have fun. You'll be fine.
