3D print chainring inserts for more aero profile

Is 3D printing chainring inserts to reduce aero drag a dumb idea? Couldn't they be made to just pop in and weigh nearly nothing?

In reality it would probably make very little difference but then triathletes in general will buy anything that might make them faster :)

If you do a good enough job and are decent at graphic design, you can build a kickstarter for it and make a ton of money.

Why 3d printed? Wouldn't it be easier just to use some fiberglass pieces?

If I just taped over the holes with duct tape, is that illegal fairings?

On that note, John Cobb once recommended to put tape around exposed cables, creating a trailing edge to reduce drag. Is that an illegal fairing?
