Has the design of the stem covers changed slightly? My long-low seems different from a friends with more of a step into the base bar - it also looks like I will have to trim a bit off to fit into the bar, though I haven't get tried with the bolts loose.

Not that I'm aware of. Let me know how it goes when you start from loosened stem-to-mono bolts.

It went on ok when I loosed the bolts. It is definitely different though as mine has no 'back' and is a little bit taller all the way down.

I'm struggling with the front hydration concept. I got a chance to study the monoextension, and I see 2 holes that I assumed were for a cage attachment, but they are too far apart for a standard cage.

How are they supposed to work?
What front hydration system will work with the standard monoextensions?
I want something refillable, ideally with a flexible straw that I can store in a down position, and I'll want to mount a computer somewhere.

Clearly, my AeroZ will not work with the standard system. Will it work with the alternate system that you sent me the link to?

Those holes are meant for the SC carbon cage & rail system.

You can get just the rail - to which you can bolt any cage or other system that requires/allows M5 bolts for mounting - from your Trek dealer as part # 512178.

Here's a post where the AeroZ is mounted on an SC with the S-Bend mono. The plug'n'play mono would work in a similar way.

Yeah there's definitely a difference, I just bought a bike and purchased a spare low/far stem and a spare low far stem cover and they are completely different to each other and also have different part numbers stamped on the inside. One fits very tightly and the other has more room to fit the cables underneath. They are also other differences like the two little pieces that stick out at the aft end where the cables go under (kind of hard to explain), one stem cover doesn't even have those.

Is the bit that goes into the bars a different height?

Thank you again, Carl!! The system is beginning to make more sense to me. I'm afraid I'm the only one in town with a SC, and nearly the only triathlete, so I'm kind of alone in the wilderness.
The pic was of an Aero 20. I don't think the AeroZ would work with the mount under the bars. I'd probably need to get the plug and play extensions to make it work, since the monobar sits where the bottle needs to.

ach...you're right aero20 vs aeroZ...still, the S-bend mono does have the longest straight section where an aeroZ with its integrated mount might work. otherwise, as you say, the plug'n'play with std extensions should behave similarly.

Can anyone give me some ideas to mount a PC8 other than on the Bontrager BTA. The K-edge wont work since the aero extensions are too narrow to fit the head unit between the extensions.

Pics would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Carl,

For a crash replacement frame, does the new frame come with a new base bar, stem, and mono bar? Or will I need to transfer those old parts over?

Pretty sure that will be a bare frame

Thanks Carl.

Do you have any suggestions on where to put the shimano wireless d-fly on a medium sized frame with a low-far stem? It won't fit under the steam cover and my junction A box is already mounted on top of the stem. Someone posted a while ago they mounted their's in the seat tube. Just curious if you had any other suggestions or comments on where to mount it....

Zero experience with it. I did go down to the Race Shop to ask around and I got my first look at one at the same time. A lot smaller than I thought. The word from the guys down there was that internal mounts can sometimes result in spotty performance, but it's definitely a YMMV thing. Along those lines, this link has an interesting internal method...though the shape of the SC toptube might encourage it to walk it's way forward vs staying in place. If it's a wall thickness thing causing signal dropouts on internal installations the downtube might be a slightly better candidate than toptube as well.

I was thinking of trying to put it on top of the junction box but right now my mono extensions are too far back to do that. If I can push them more forward and still achieve my reach (471mm bb to back of pad), then I think it will work. Right now my pad wing is on the furthermost mount on the extensions. My pad holders are mounted on the 3rd mounting location from the back. What is the distance between pad wing mounting locations on the extensions? Don't have my bike in front of me but looking at a picture it looks like ~25 mm difference. How about the distance between mounting locations on the pad holder? (10-15 mm?). For reference, I have ~20 mm of available space to move the extensions forward.

Hope this all makes sense.

Awesome thanks!

What about the delta between mounting the pad wing holder one way vs 180 deg?

Not sure I could say even if I knew...and I don't know :-(

Sometimes options can show up in the dealer ordering system before they show up on the consumer site...but that's not the case here either.

Is this wired correctly? Just picked up my bike, the junction box obviously won't stay on this way as the zip tie just slides off. Are the wires supposed to come out of the front?
The mechanic said he had to file down the stem to keep it from rubbing the paint.
