Carl,

Does the 2014 SC 7.5 come with a selection of stems (like my 9.9) or do the different sizes need to be ordered? We bought a 7.5 for my wife from the LBS last year and she was "fit" by the store. I didn't pay much attention to what else was given to her (I wasn't at fitting); she is going to be fit again and I looked for stems and couldn't find any with the bike stuff. The store is saying it only came with one stem which doesn't make any sense to me. It was a new bike, not a demo or in any way used. They said they would call Trek Tuesday, but the manager said that his info only indicates a single stem size provided with bike. How would you fit it to the range of people who ride a small? My brother recently bought a 7.5 from a different dealer and got a range of stems like me with my 9.9.

thanks,

Steve

The Bontrager setup comes with a small bracket which bolts on top of the mono extension, allowing clearance for the arm pad "wing." The bottle cage bolts to this bracket. You need this piece to mount a standard (or XLab) cage, unless you can fabricate something.

Thanks -

HOLY CRAP $89 just so I can get the mounting bracket?

Does anyone know if this mounting bracket can be purchased by itself (without buying the bontrager cage) ? Any other way to mount the XLab Gorilla XT Cage for a BTA set up?

Anyone having issues with frame (2014 7.5) flexing when out of saddle? When I climb out of saddle the rear wheel rubs the brakes due to the frame flex. I set my brakes very wide (too the point of really poor braking) to try to combat the issue but it still exists. Happens w/ zipp 808 and Super9 disc..... Any advise?

Not replying to Carl in particular but...

Has anyone replaced all the hardware with stainless steel or titanium? If so, where did you get all the bolts from? How much? Any other tips and advice is appreciated.

I haven't done it but if I was going to, I would probably order from McMaster-Carr. Their website is awesome and really helps you understand the differences between all different types of hardware.

It depends on whether you want to use strong bolts or stainless/ti to hold the handlebars together.

I was thinking of putting some clear silicone on the bolts that are exposed to sweat and water bottles leaking or perspiration.

Dumb idea or ingenious? Super cheap fix, plus you can probably pull it out when you need to get to the bolt head later.

Depends on whether the bolts on the bike are hardened or un-hardened as to whether the stainless is weaker or not.

Small question: BB90 means all 30mm spindles are out. Any other clearance restrictions to note? Specifically, on a 2014 SC9, Madone 7 or Emonda SLR? My local power2max rep claims Quarq and (DA9000) SRM are incompatible with the Domane and might be troublesome with the others too.

Why wouldn't an srm or quarq fit on the domane? Quarq requires a gxp bearings while the srm (assuming DA srm) just needs shimano bearings but I don't why there would be any issues with fitment.

This used to happen with a friend's P3. I seem to recall reading that it is actually due to the frame being quite stiff, thus the wheel is forced to flex a bit.
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Hilarious.

SRM is a Trek Factory Racing partner. The team has DA9000 SRMs on SC9s, Madones, Emondas, Domanes.

And our experience is that when SRMs fit, Quarqs do too.

ETA: have covered elsewhere the clearance issues with the Pioneer unit...and how Stages' choice of unit location datum may help them avoid the same fate

I thought that was suspicious if the TFR guys all have SRMs on their bikes, but he claims these are custom modified for the team. Ugh, it's bad business if you're trying to gain customers with scare tactics. Might go with a Quarq rather than another p2m just because.

No problems with quark on a 2014 as far as I know.

Fairly sure there's no problem with an SRM, given that you can order one on Project One.

I've replaced almost everything with Ti with a Al in a few low-load locations. I sourced most of the hardware from Pro Bolt and Toronto Cycle, depending on the fastener type (head shape, length) and a few from KCNC (Fairwheel Bikes). I did this in several batches so I don't have an easy total for cost but would guess somewhere around $125; the Pro Bolt pieces can be pricey.

I have yet to find a source for the spherical bolts on the monoextension mount or dome head bolts with heads shallow enough for the rear brake carrier.

I have 3 remaining weight weenie changes and will share the total weight shortly but I can't tell you the reduction from the hardware alone if that's the rationale for your question.

I thought Carl said the OE hardware is stainless??

I'm experiencing the same thing with my (2014 7.5) when out of the saddle with a Super9 disc. My brakes are set wide too. I'll experience it coming out of a turn where I get out of the saddle to accelerate. At times it feels like way more than a rub, it can really jar me back. I also would appreciate any advise on this topic...

I have the 2015 7.5 with aluminium seatpost.
Could i just drop the septets battery into the frame? As I understand I cannot attache the battery inside the aluminium seatpost?

Hi Carl,
Fork with handle bar at my SC9 rotates too freely, because I think steering lock bolt and steering axle have came loose in a half year. Can you tell a sequence of how to tighten them ? I'm referring to 2014 SC9 Service Information, Page7 and 8.
Sincerely yours,

Rotates too freely? I don't understand what that means. the steps in thannual should be adequate to set the proper preload. Try following them or take to your Trek dealer.

Can anyone tell me the tube widths on the original and new speed concepts. (I presume the old 7 and 9 have the same widths?)
