"For those wondering about cross-compatibility between 11-speed and 10-speed, there are none; considering the changes in chain width, chainring thicknesses, shifter throws, only Red 22 and Force 22 can exchange parts. However, no parts will be cross-compatible with existing 10-speed platforms."

You should be able to hold on to your cranks if you switch out chainrings though.

I just submitted a Project One order to a bike shop. I'll let everyone know the lead time and the other particulars once I talk to my guy at the shop.

Just from an eyeballing of those photos, it almost looks like Trek has adopted the geometry that Cervelo abandoned.

I am assuming that trek is maintaining the vertical drop outs on this bike...If that is the case how is the rear wheel going to come off without first removing the "rear brake cover"?

Quick Release Pins?

Honestly I don't know...but I can't be the only one that think that looks like an point of interference when taking the wheel out.

Am I the only one that hates the behind the seat storage? That thing is severely ugly and looks like a car trunk.

might work well aerodynamically though....wonder if the drag diags reflect this i.e what config they used for comparisons....one for a potential white paper maybe.

But the lava article appears to say that while the frame stack and reach are the same, pad stack can now be lower and pad reach can now be longer.

Either way I couldn't use it. It totally ruins the bike for me. When I had a speed concept, a single zipp tied cage worked perfect and would do it again.

Plus, I would imagine it would only help at zero yaw. That's quite a bit of extra area on the back. Just my eyeball tunnel there and I am sure they have data to support their lower drag claim. Probably just something to support the sales of another 100 dollar rear hydration unit.

On another note, can we label this as the official 2014 speed concept thread?

The bike is faster with storage items added, between -15 and +15.

Between -5 and +5 it's basically a wash. Between +5 & +10 and -5 & -10 the bike + storage advantage increases to ~100g drag, then the advantage disappears between +10 & +15 and -10 & -15.

This white paper is an interesting read.

Huh. Wouldn't really have guessed that big of a reduction. My original comment on the look still stands.

And it looks like I have some reading to do tonight. Did you just find it in the trek site?

The speed fin saves a claimed 10g drag between 0 and 12.5 deg yaw.

The draft box looks like a mostly aero-neutral proposition in and of itself.

The white paper also addresses the "2-pack." Dear momma I thought we were done with this idea. Apparently not. It also looks like it's faster, but I suspect that this will be HIGHLY dependent on rider positioning.
