They'll probably charge $10 to enter the area where the race is held, and another $10 for parking.

Become an RD for your own race and then you can charge whatever you want and you'll get to race for free.

Same here - Eastern PA. I just paid $65 for one. I see another charging $90 for a VERY short sprint (passing).

Thanks for bringing this up. There's not nearly enough talk about the costs of races on ST. Everyone chimes in about saving a few bucks on components but rarely do we hear about the exorbitant costs of the races we do.

I'd do sprints but they're not worth the money to me. I have a family and we have a budget, so I need to set my race budget early. Let's say I put $1,000 towards races in a given year. That can be eaten up by 2 or 3 races easily. I'm doing 1/2 IMs so the reg is just below $300, plus accommodations, food, etc.

Crazy howh we buy these bikes, components, apparel and race fees for what amounts to less than a few days on the race course per season... But I love it and want more of it.

You have been around long enough to know the cost of doing business.....

And that cost goes UP every year as more and more people expect more and more from organizers, too. We hear complaints all the time about race organizers not having enough police personell at intersections, ambulance personell everywhere (just in case), enough water rescue people to be able to handle every single thing that could ever go wrong, and the list goes on and on...................but, hey I don't want to pay more then $45?

You get what you pay for : )

That's pretty normal pricing for down here in NC, we actually have one race that is only $30

Cheap compared to Houston area events.

$55 (register 3 months out) is the cheapest I've seen.

I'll be paying $75 for the Sprint (600y/10mi./3mi.) I'm doing on Sunday.

Careful what you complain about. :)

My tri team is putting on a sprint as a fund raiser for the local YMCA. We are charging $45 and are expecting close to 300 participants.

Sounds good. Please move to Indy and put on races here. We could use some competition to drive the insane prices down.

All the sprints (400m, 20k, 5K) in the DC area go for $70-90. I think its ridiculous but its pretty much standard across the board. Then active.com slaps another $7.50 "processing fee", (don't get me started). Heck, the local 5K fun runs go for $35-45 around here. At least most of these events support some local cause.

I'm here in H-town too and the sprint prices are absurd, IMO. So much so that I'm just not doing any (except The Bridgeland sprint since I live two minutes away from it). There is no bang for the buck in sprint races in Houston.

I also spend two hours or more commuting to any race around Houston since all the races are in the Bay area, The Woodlands or Sugar Land - and I live in Cypress. Not worth driving for nearly twice as long as the race itself.

Nothing to complain about there. You can't do a sprint in S. Fla. for under $60. And now
all the races do online-only registration, and they charge you a $5 registration fee!!
